Hey all:
I'm a Glen Lyon native who now lives and works in brooklyn nyc. I happened upon this page recently and I'd just like to offer a couple of things to my fellow "lyoners" about why I'm so proud to call the glen home. It's still a place where everybody knows your name and you don't have to lock your doors at night. I was born and raised at 22 Railroad directly across from the post office. As a kid, we played on the coal banks between lee and glen. I remember eating tarnowski's sausage and gettin my first checking account at Glen Lyon national bank. Big ups to the janisons, makarczyks, wilkes, zylas', etc. oh, there's so many more to name. Thank god for the italian club and St Adalbert's ( thats what i know it as) my home church. Although I've been gone for nearly 14 years, i still miss it. One love and peace to all the young ones coming up in the glen right now. don't do drugs, don't be a scumbag, and don't emulate your parents. Do you, get out of there, but take your memories with you. I did and I'm grateful. One love, Ken aka "glen lyon's finest"

I grew up in Nanticoke, by Glen Lyon. Always liked the little town. Have relatives there on Main St., the Dule family. The Tarnowski family that owned the store lived by me in Nanticoke. Grew up playing with the Tarnowski kids.
I remember playing on coal banks in Nanticoke. Used to love picking the pretty rocks around it.
My father worked in the Wanamie mines.
Used to love to go with my mom to the cemeteries in Glen Lyon to just walk around. She knew people buried there. And I loved visiting Olga Trosky's grave. The one that the movie Miracle of the Bells was made about.
Last time I was up there was to visit Leo Tarnowski's grave.
Used to ride my bike to Glen Lyon from Nanticoke with my friend Stanley. I remember we used to stop at this one store. We got a kick out of how it looked like one of those 1940 or 50 soda fountains where you would get a coke or ice cream float. Probably gone by now. That was in the 1970's.
My friend Pauline Kashefski was from Glen Lyon. And my moms friend Rosalie Owazany was born there. Rose just died last Wednesday.

Does anyone have a PARENT or GRANDPARENT who worked in the coal mines That they csn ask if they worked with a Felix Birch in the 1930's/1940's?
( Felix-1884-1952 died of black lung disease) He & Catherine(Krochmel)Birch lived at 12 S. Chestnut St.,Glen Lyon,PA. Also does anyone know anyone from the Rasmus or Krochmel families?(Babcia's Maiden name was Krochmel-1887-1971) Not sure if her dad/stepdad, Mr Krochmel died in a house fire...many, many yrs ago in Glen Lyon,Nanicoke. We are trying to trace our Grandparents lives. We have very little to work with so far.:( We would appreciate the smallest bit of information.....Thank You. ble7000@aol.com
