Try working for the LIRR.

They don't have to work when it snows...or rains...or gets cold...or on Sundays when repairs are needed...or when they get their feelings hurt...

When I went to high school 20+ years ago the school never closed except for Hurricanes and 2ft+ snow storms, they NEVER closed because of a threat of snow, a THREAT of snow. Next they'll be closing because of extreme heat or cold. We've become a society of coddled babies.

Grade school was 30 years + and the schools NEVER closed. We walked 2 miles to school everyday in the rain, wind, snow etc. These kids today have NO idea at all. NOW some parents have to take off from work cause the school is closed and stay with these kids. If it were up to me and I had kids, rest assured their lil butts would be out there shoveling snow all day. No play-dates, no TV, no Wii. No school, well then we'll find something constructive for you to do all day. We have idiots running some schools today who are ruining the possible future with these kids.

Teachers & admins want to take off the half day that they do work somethime so they can get started on their 2-3 week paid vacations.

LI taxpayers have plenty of $$. So, they make up another lame excuse about "what is best for the kids" (wink, wink)

LI kids are dumbest in the country. LI teachers highest paid in the country.

If you can't afford to buy your kids Christmas presents this year - Thank a teacher because their kids are gonna clean up this year.

Another blowhard!
They work the total number of days that is in their contract. If they are off today they will work an "extra" day near the end of the school year or a Spring vacation will be shortened.
These are called "snow days". They are planned for.

When we did have days off from school because of snow, the first thing my brothers and I did after shoveling our driveway and walkway was walk around the neighborhood shoveling other peoples driveways for money then went sleigh riding at Bethpage park.

What difference does it make if this person has kids or not? Their comment was right on the money.

Were do you get your information from?? Or do you make it up. I have family who works for the LIRR and not only do they work when it snows and rains. They work nights and weekends too.
