Joe Krupinski is the choice of the people in the upcoming Sea Cliff election on March 18. They are calling him "Mr. Mayor" already although I think he realizes he's in for a battle. If voters consider that he's been living in the village for 42 years and has been active in civic activities since 1979, they will realize that they have an experienced leader who truly cares about Sea Cliff. He wants to be mayor in order to form a village government that is receptive to the needs of residents and businesses. Unlike his two opponents, Joe is retired and has the ability to give the job his full-time attention. The others can only be part-time mayors. There's a big difference. Joe will be on the job daily when village hall needs him most. So Vote Joe Krupinski for Change.

According to this week's Gazette, Bruce Kennedy made another faux pas in saying that the Civic Progress Party sought him as their candidate and not the other way around. When will this guy stop fudging around with public opinion. He's ruining his rep and credibility. And I thought he would be a player in this campaign. Instead, he's running a distant third according to the Gallop Poll. Joe Krupinski and Bob Haim, by the way, are neck and neck, ready for a photo finish.

If you wonder why the postings are back to back, we are all using the same computer at my house. Believe it or not, Done Deal and Hardy Boy were never interested in Sea Cliff politics until this three-way campaign came up. Now they're addicted to it. My favorite still remains Joe Krupinski. His "Joe's Retort" in this week's Gazette was neat. He's a real writer, like Benjamin Franklin and Mark Twain, with a wit about him. He takes nasty comments from his foes with a grain of salt and then peppers them with rebukes and rebuttals. Would I lie?

This is my first attempt at blogging and I'm a bit nervous. But Polly insisted I join in. From what I see at a distance, not knowing the insides and outs of politics, this three-way campaign for mayor has rallied the voters. There should be a terrific turnout (Polly tells me 1,800 to 2,000) even though the voting is in the Public Works Garage. Where is that, by the way? Funny we haven't heard from Bob Haim. I think his party is keeping him under wraps while Joe Krupinski and Bruce Kennedy duke it out. Polly tells me to remind you that the election is Wed., March 18.

Yes, I am part of this Sunday brunch crowd and just wish to thank the Sea Cliff Beach Committee for the wonderful time I had Friday night on the Pub Crawl. For $20 it was a great time, walking from place to place. Best stop was Partners where owner Joy put out a delicious buffet plus cheese-burgers. The music encouraged dancing, and there was Joe Krupinski, light on his feet as usual, dancing the night away. Who was the cute little redhead, Joe? The man is single, ladies, and can be reached at village hall or back on the library green after March 18.

Okay, I'm last but not least to go. There's something coming up that we're all going to. It's the Patio Daddio Band's fund-raiser at the firehouse on Saturday, March 14, starting at 7 p.m. For $40 all you can eat and drink with an open bar and nice buffet. It's all for a beach bandshell that the band would like to donate to the village, hopefully this summer. Let's support this worthy cause. Should be the winter's best party, besides the Pub Crawl, which was a beaut.

Wow, things have changed dramatically since I wrote Blog No. 3 on Bruce Kennedy's candidacy. Now it's a race between Bruce and Joe Krupinski with Bob Haim dropping back drastically. More after the Thursday debate, folks, don't miss it.

Well, the debate was as exciting as advertised. Joe Krupinski was clearly the best speaker, looking at the audience as he spoked, and not at their notes like his two opponents. Joe seemed very relaxed and nonchalant on the stage, but made some firm and pertinent answers when the questions came. Two ladies arguing about reassessment of their properties took a whole half-hour away from mayoral question-and-answer. Almost 200 voters were there.

Don't fret for my Cousin Bruce. If he doesn't make mayor, he still has the powerful position of chairman of the Planning Board. He's very resourceful there, and that may just be his proper element. From my vantage point, the Civic Progress Party will be getting its comeuppance on election day, possibly even finishing third. Bob Haim will get another good job from whichever other candidate wins, because he's a good guy. That leaves Joe Krupinski, who can always be the ombundsman for the village. The job is open and just right for Joe, who can remain active in his retirement. Me? I'm writing in an absentee ballot for that Theodore Roosevelt look-alike in town, what's his name, James Feete?

Does anyone write on this thing besides Joe Krupinski under different names? "Vote for change" sounds a lot like someone else's campaign... oh yeah Barack Obama. Bruce Kennedy would get a lot more votes if he weren't so abrasive. What the people in Sea Cliff need to notice is that you can not change all of the rules and regulations in Sea Cliff over night- "lets change the rules" doesn't work that quickly. It takes years and years of dedication- the kind of dedication that Bob Haim has.
Joe and Bruce can duke it out all they want and throw nasty comments back and forth. They have shown their true colors by lying and making false accusations back and forth. Do you really want a Mayor like that? Bob has stayed quite friendly during the entire election. I think the educated choice is clear. BOB HAIM

donnette, welcome to the fray. bob haim is a nice guy but he doesn't have the name or face recognition and personal charisma of joe krupinski or bruce kennedy. he's been kind of quiet at all the meetings that i've attended. he's been stiff, especially at the debate. i think we need more of a loosey, goosey guy for mayor of sea cliff, not someone so solemn and sanctimonious. and did you hear the rumor that i heard? bob wants to name central park after his wife, evey, who was instrumental in getting playground equipment but had a lot of help from other residents in putting it up. a group effort. and how do you name a park after someone who is still alive. pirie, geohegan, clifton parks were all named after deceased leaders in the community way back when. the other parks are all named after the streets that they're on. so put a hold on that, bob, it's out there and people resent it. evey's a terrific lady but let her get a white cap award or something first!

First of all, that wasn't really me breaking the kennedy-krieb news about the beach pavilion naming. Although it's a good item. So now we have Evey Park (formerly Central) and the Eileen Krieb Beach Pavilion along Henry Hollman Boulevard. Henry is the only one who deserved something being named after him. He was a great man, beloved civil servant and a good joke-teller. No, you've got to die or leave town to have something named after you in Sea Cliff.
Wait until I pass before you name it the Joe Krupinski Dog Park or Restroom at Clifton Park. I want to be cremated and my ashes spread as fertilizer on the Village Green, by the way.
Supercalifragilisticexpialadoc ious, there this makes it an authentic Joe Krupinski blog, folks.

Donnette:

I was wondering that myself. Maybe it's many voices inside of one body on a computer in Baldwin?

Very interesting to see Krieb (the woman who has raised our taxes for the last few years and spent like a drunken sailor) endorse Kennedy to follow in her footsteps. I now fully understand why she does not like Mr. Haim, he stood in the way of her spending.

Didn't Mayor Krieb win grants for some of the Village projects, that way avoiding digging further into the budget? Please correct me if Im wrong

There were many grants over the last few administrations, as your taxes show not enough to pay for the work done. Just because part of the money spent came from other people, it does not mean that there was not vast overspending.
