Wisconsin couple extend essay contest to win house for $100

Full story: TwinCities.com

Too few people were looking at a gift house in the past month, so Luke and Darcy Ploessl have extended their Cassville essay contest to win a $100,000 home for $100. They were optimistic that enough entries would be received to award six houses they own, to their financial disadvantage, in the Mississippi River village to winners by March 15.

How is this a "gift" from the Ploessl's, or "to their financial disadvantage"?
If my math is correct:$100 fee to enter multiplied by a minimum of 1,000 entries per house =$100,000.
Yes, it would be a great bargain to obtain one of these houses at that price, but the sellers will be getting the estimated market value of the homes through the entry fees. Unless the fees are reimbursed to those who do not win.
Do not mistake this as a gift or charity act, it is just a clever way to sell a house.
If the Ploessl's would have gotten their 1500 entries per home that they initially wanted they would have walked away with a cool 3 million above the estimated market value for said homes.

Barelo, where do you get 3 million? I think you meant $300,000. Not outrageous. And probably less than what they paid for them, so yes, I think it probably IS to their financial disadvantage.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Virgo

Someone is being headstrong and wilful, and absolutely determined to do what they want. Mercury is retrograde and it's a Full Moon in Cancer with a lunar eclipse all happening tonight! This could lead to some heated discussions and possibly even rows, as you argue the toss back and forth. It might be best to accept that there's very little possibility of reaching an agreement rather than to get locked in a stubborn battle of wills. Besides, you don't want anything to spoil what promises to be a very enjoyable New Year's Eve. Have fun!
