Every business in the downtown area is dependent on having parking available for their patrons. The visitor shuttle is great when it is available in the summer. There is only so much space for parking downtown. People want to park downtown so their transportation is available. If they are shopping they do not want to carry their bags to lunch or until they get ready to get on the shuttle. Why do we continue to deny the fact that we need a parking structure? Not just for the proposed performing arts building but for general use.
We need to be a bit more "user friendly".

While I agree that parking is an issue, why do you suppose it is that the lot built at the fairgrounds a couple of years ago is constantly empty and hardly ever used in the summer, except for fairground events and farmers markets? I would suggest that the town needs to study this boondoggle, get the lot used, then consider the multi level parking structure. As for the recall effort, the town by-laws state that anyone may file a recall petition of a public official, no matter what the reason. That's nonsense. This needs to be changed. Then I can file a petition of denial of EPIC's petition of recall due to childlishness and nonsense. Being able to file just because it didn't go in your favor shows your true colors.

The arguments have been made and the decision has been made. To EPIC supporters, find an alternative site for your plans, but let this decision go. It has been made, and the more you continue to revisit the past, the more difficult it will become to continue any plan for the future. The board has spoken. Let it go.

Think of downtown Estes Park as an outdoor mall. Which, in a way it is, especially in the summer. The sidewalks are packed with people walking up and down Elkhorn with packages in tow and I am sure many of these people go to lunch with their bags.
But back to the mall analogy. People in a suburban mall don't go back to their cars to drop off their bags and then go to lunch.
The problem with the shuttle, of course, is that it has to to use the same road as the cars use, which is to say the shuttle is subject to the same traffic jams and delays as the cars.
The shuttles will never be successful as long as they are subject to the same delays as the autos. Therefore, the parking at the fairgrounds will always be a failure because it is reliant on the shuttle. But I don't think anyone ever seriously thought it would be a success as it was just a way to get free funding for the fairgrounds in the guise of cutting down on auto pollution.
I have mixed feeling about the merits of EPIC, but, in any event, the city should get full consideration for anything it might be giving to the project.
Frankly, I have never seen the parking lot full at the visitor's center. From there it is a short, lovely walk to downtown all year and a walk or a bus ride during the summer. I know there are people that demand parking within a few feet of their shopping, dining or drinking experience but I do not share that desire or demand. Personally, I welcome the exercise and the fresh air associated with some walking to and through town.
