Good afternoon Estes Park…
I wish I could be up here to help you recover. I am a retired TX DOT heavy equipment operator and worked with numerous drainage problems for the state. Albeit, not on the scale of mountain living but as any Texican wag working with dirt and water drainage will assert,“All you have to know is water runs downhill, payday is on Friday and the boss is a SOB.”(Pardon my feeble attempt at humor.) As a 66-year resident of flat, dry, hot Central Texas floods of this magnitude are relatively unknown. I visited Estes Park twice in the last 5 years. We made numerous trips into RMNP (simply staggering scenery!) Elkhorn Avenue (T-shirt heaven!) and visited an antique shop in Glen Haven (the kind of shop, owners in Texas would kill for) the last trip. We were charmed by Estes Park and Glen Haven in particular. You guys are in a spot of difficulty now, but I am confident you have the technical resourcefulness and Colorado hard-rock miner ability to pull through. When you stop for a breather, look at the friends around you … one might be a bearded, craggy looking 1876 gold miner come back to lend a hand. Hang tough Colorado… If you have Peyton Manning as Bronco quarterback that is a definite plus.
God bless you guys, thank you for letting a flatlander bend your ear,
Randall L. Henderson
