How many people are having "issues" with United Bank, and tell me what they are. I have had an account with them since August of last year and have had trouble with my account EVERY month, also could anyone suggest a good bank that doesn't have hidden fees and that are dependable? I have heard alot about chase, but live on small budget, so I wasn't crazy about the monthly 12$ fee, although they did say that they would work with me on that part.

are you saying bbt is good be your name, or were you refering to the United? I am still having problems, after telling them last monday to get it straight or i was leaving, evidently they have enough customers, they don't need me, but I wanted to know if I was the only one or if everyone was getting taken by them. I heard the Bank of America was good too.

I had bank of america for 4 years, there are no local banks so that was a downside. But I never had any problems with them. I also was with United for many years, I left because they started charging and monthly fee I think it was 8 bux when I left. I just don't think I should pay to have a checkings account when it makes the bank money.

Free checking Is nothing but a front for hidden fees. It was created to pray on the youth and thats y the government is passing a bill to ban it.

For instance it started that an overdraft fee was 34$ not 36$, debit was .25 not .50, and the overdraft covers the debit/credit transactions not checking THEN WHAT THE H*LL AM I PAYING THE FEE FOR? None of it makes sense and they talk in circles to confuse you, they are out to weasle you and I am still not finished with them....I am going elsewhere after the conversation I had with them today......what is the "overdraft PROTECTION fee" and if it applies to debit does debit not automatically come out of your account? So if its not an available balance you shouldn't be able to make the purchase.....am I stupid or do they have me buffaloed?

I agree, and the contract that you sign for all of that small print BS should apply throughout your term with them, not walk in the bank one day and a NOTE is posted be the desks saying affective Jan. 1, 2011 debit fees will be .50 some classy notification. Also they go through as your signing and say all this is saying is blah blah blah so we just need your signature here...here....here....and here...and offer you a nice gift....I AM REALLY UPSET WITH THEM OBVIOUSLY

I have been with United for many years. I haven't had any trouble at all. If you don't have the money in the bank, then that is considered an overdraft, if you are planning on using a debit card, you need to use it as credit instead of debit then they won't be a debit fee. The Overdraft Protection Fee means if you get something and the money is NOT in the bank, the bank will go ahead and pay it, then YOU pay an overdraft fee, same for the debit card. If you don't won't the overdraft protection you can OPT out and they won't paid the check, debit or whatever you use it will be refuse for anything purchase with a debit or the check will be returned with insufficient funds. I don't pay any fees of any kind to bank with United.

I am just saying that when I signed the contract, the contract should be upheld, not changing when they decide too. Also what I am getting at is the check that they covered with the 36$ fee keeps getting redeposited, another 36$ fee, so what are the covering??? In part this is my fault but you dont know the half of what I have been through with them. And they held a debit pending....for 3 days, when I called and got my balance I went out and got some gas, on the 30th (day before my check was deposited) then they put the debit through causing yet another overdraft. Debits come out immediately, not 3 days later...I didn't realize this until I checked the computer...I could go on and on and I guess I am switching banks and will not use checks or debit depending on their contracts and fees. I was only on here to find out if I was the only one getting the shaft and mishaps left and right. I know it is my responsibility to keep up with this stuff, but I relied on the electronic means of keeping my balance (thats what it is for) and it messed me up. So I take part of the blame but they have made me a very unhappy customer. And if there is anyone out there going through this stuff with them let me know. Also you commented that the protection was for checks also, the lady on the phone at the bank told me that it was for debit/credit use only BS. And you agreed with me that it was for checks as well. Isnt it?

I have had my account for over 10 years at first I had no issues but for the past year or so all those EFT fees and my husbands account with City National is always accurate mine is always off by $30 bucks and I've asked them several times about this issue they look at my statements and cant find the problem. looks like someone is slowly making a killing by taking money out....Im seriously considering going to City National they have absolutely free checking. my husband pays $5 bucks but never has any issues.

If you use your debit card at different stores they charge you a fee, some stores charge as much as 75 cents each time you use it, and that mounts up. I don't like using a debit card for that reason. That may be the reason yours is off by about $30. I don't use a debit card anymore, I just go ahead and use a check.

I had this kinda problem at city national and first community so last july i switched to CHASE which is the best bankin experenice that i have ever had and if you do direct deposit then you dont have to pay the $12 fee. and they dont charge to use ur card either way credit or debit and they are always so friendly and helpful when i go in there. the only downside is if you use an atm thats not chase toget chase out then the charge you 1.50 nonchase atm fee but there are so many chase atms around that it doesn't bother me.

I am glad to hear I am not the only one, that is the reason I started this "thread" because I wanted to know if ANYONE out there was getting scammed on or if I am just ignorant. Im sorry to here you are having trouble....sometimes that 30 is needed for some people and if they do it every month...someones getting it, not you. Thank you and if there are any more out there with issues related to United please let me know.

We've had United Bank for a couple years, at first it was alright except always having to use the debit card as credit or it was a .25 cent fee, I was unaware it was being raised to .50 cents until I was charged the fee. If you use Pay Pal, and use the United card as Credit it will not go to the Bank as Credit, only debit, If you make a Payment all at one time the Bank will separate each one to charge the .50 fee multiple times. The past few months I have those charges over and over even using Credit, we have Direct Deposit but it is time to get away from United Bank, those fees can add up to about $20.00 in any given month, then you have overdraft fees, and don't know why. Just pay attention and if charges keep showing up and you don't know why, ask them, of course they always have an answer to their advantage for sure, until enough people complain then it will stop

Try Whitesville State Bank. Small town bank with big city advantages. Seriously, I have found them to be a good bank. Small enough to know their customers yet offers everything that you will find at big banks. If you ever have a problem they will work with you to solve an issue. Not like the big box banks. Been there -- done that. One important thing, if you don't have money in your account, don't write check, because that won't work at any bank. It's called an overdraft fee and I don't think any bank offers that for free. After all, a bank is a business and not a charity so they are out to make a profit just like any business. Pioneer Bank is another small bank. I'm sure there are more small banks around. Small community banks are the banks people should patronize. They employ locals and you are treated like a person and not a number.

Have you ever had a DEBIT PENDING (for more than a few days), then they put it in at the end of the month....also know for any new users that the 800 number to get your balance is never right. Beleive me, I am on them now and I make sure they will not get another dime of our money. I would switch, but I am kinda stuck with them for the moment, but Chase sounds like my next choice SOON. The Sophia branch is worse. You really have to watch them and they are rude, on the 3rd this month I happen to be in there and they had 3 people working and I don't think any of them could smile. ROBOTS.

I guess you are right about that all but Whitesville, I am not a charity case, I have proof that the bank corrected all of these "mistakes" I was not writing checks just to be writing them, there were reasons they overdrafted.....not mine. If so I would be in jail for such things now. I was too understand that,,, oh hell it isn't even worth going into. Ya notice anytime you try to reach out to people on here you just get slammed or someone else does. Maybe I needed to talk or advice or to know if any one else was getting done the same way from United. Go set on it Ms. Hotsy

No matter what bank you go to, look at the fee schedule on the account contract. If it looks like algebra, then your probably gonna get the shaft. The more complicated they are the more likely it is that your gonna get tripped up. Youre better off paying a flat fee than jumping the through hoops to make sure you dont get charged. Because in the end they get ya. It might be a nickle and a dime at a time, but its coming, thats why they make it complicated.
