As we watch a memorial for the 29 miners killed in Upper Branch Mine April 5, 2010, we again say good by to a young miner killed at Eccles. Our prayers, as meaningful, our tears as real, our grief as deep for this young man as the 29 others the mines have claimed this year. God bless the 30 WV miners who have given their lives. God continue to bless the families and friends. Good by John King, we keep the lights on for your memory.

Having just read this forum...other than the teenager crap...this was heart breaking news... Prayers out to all the families of those miners. I would like to know why there is no Reality TV show about Miners... I mean...yes, fishing in Alaska's Bering Sea is dangerous but other than stuffing our faces with crab meat it isn't a job than the world "needs". Coal is a need and the world depends on it. Miners really live the mines. Having so many deaths in this form of making a living obviously makes it one of America's Deadliest jobs. Why is there no media considering educating the world about this type of life. The life of a real Coal Miner?
Again... my prayers to those family members. I tip my hat to those miners still brave enough to do this job!

I would like to see / or hear about / The Miners at ICG getting randomly Drug tested on 2nd & 3rd shift. I know a few on each shift that get a script for 5's and they can buy whatever they want as many as they want and stay on them every day as long as they have a script. If they run out theyre PILL SICK till they find some more. One guy does at least 60mg a day and only gets 30 of the 5's a month... hmmm . I dont like or want my man working with these few men. I want my man coming home each day. These men work hard due to pill popping giving them energy but theyre risking the lives of more miners. The boss's KNOW who they are even. STINKS.
What sucks more is family members are left with memories because of accidents. I dont want that to be at ICG because of stupid PILLS.

it's not just ICG...all the mines are getting really bad about that...and they aren't just "popping pills" they are sitting underground crushing up pills and snorting them with our "honest & drug free" men trying to work. It's dangerous and ridiculous..I know of one coal mine in the area that the BOSS was actually selling Oxycontin to the miners....I guess his $30.00 an hour job just wasn't enough for him

the pills around here are out of hand, the cops or DEA or something need to roll into GD and put a stop to some of it. the good people around here should start taking a stand against it.

Its as danderous as it is in part because of the way most of these coal barrons run their shows. It doesn't have to be that way when you put safety in front of that dollar sign. But thats allright, the only good thing that has come out of the U.B.B. tragedy is that new laws on mining will be put into effect once its all said and done. And it must because these coal company owners sure aren't gonna do it on their own.So others will hold their hand and do it for them. And just watch all of these coal companies cry about it when it does happen.

ICG Does do drug test thats why they get a Real Script from the doctors for like 5mgs but they need the LEVEL AMOUNTS IN THEIR SYSTEM CHECKED. The amounts in their system would be off the charts but as long as they got even a small script theyre covered.

IGC is the most corrupt coal mine around thats for sure it is just a bunch of family and friends working their and if your not part of that you get treated like crap. They lie just to get you there then just shit on you for real. as far as drugs go idk no one on his husbands crew were jaked up at work they do like to drink on weekends but oh well. But i wouldn't recommend that anyone work for ICG it is a shit hole. andwith the gas its not a matter of "if the mine blows up" its a matter of "when it blows up"

can you explain what you mean by "they shit on you" and you & everyone else knows that at least HALF OF EVERY CREW THERE does some form of PILLS if they didnt then they get treated like crap for not doing a hard days work. As long as their all JACKED UP ON PILLS they work like there's no tomorrow yet on pills-- there wont be a tomorrow one day.

Don Blankenship wouldn't want the public to see the way he runs coal, or want his crimes documented, and I'm sure that's true for the other outlaw mining companies besides Massey.

That's why Massey is the company who has opened up their mines for everyone to see..on TV ..several times.
