We have buried utility lines in some places where I live in Patchogue. So because people are reckless, its the fault of the pole? Maybe this person shouldn't have attempted to pass on the shoulder while speeding.

i live in this area. people are constantly driving stupid on this street. When an old lady is driving 20 mph and you need to get some where, it becomes very tempting to pass them. That said, it's a huge shame, and this probably explains why i had no power for 2 hours last night, and no cable until this morning....

This is the second car today to hit a pole and burst into flames, the other being the police officer in Commack. What's up with that?

Actually it was from speeding....I believe male drive and female passenger....Males body was torn in two while the transformer fell on the car and car bursted into flames...Police officer heard someone screaming from inside the car while it was burning. Very very sad but thats what happens when you drive 100mph on Sea Cliff Ave.

this is so sad how you people just sit on here and are so crucial. I lost my 2 friends due to this accident last night..they were not drunk and they hit a utility pole that had a transformer on it and it blew them up my friend mike ealy who was the driver died instantly he was only 32 and had a baby on the way and my friend keemie was only 25 and had 2 kids and he was screaming for help and their was nothing that anyone could due even the fire department because of the transformers..so just imagine you watching your friends burn alive and one is already dead and the other just screaming for help and we were all helpless!!!!this happened right outside of a bar so everyone saw this and noone could do nothing..its so sad we are truly mourning on this day and will always love and miss you mike and keemi...r.i.p..you guys were good people who didnt deserve to leave this world so soon...watch over us and your children

Guess their 1987 BMW wasn't faster than a 2006 Toyota Corolla. Where was the fire? That's usually the question... Here we have, we are the fire!

If the utility lines were buried, like in Manhattan, and on many places on Long Island, such as some areas where I live in Patchogue, the roads would be safer AND..... we wouldn't lose electricity during blizzards and other storms. It CAN be done.
