Being a current MPC student, what I see as a big part of the problem is that there are basically no admission requirements. Another problem is that tuition is ridiculously cheap. Many students simply don't take it seriously. I see a lot of pretty lazy students just going through the motions. Those students really cheat the motivated ones, because they slow down the pace of teaching. That might fly in a public high school, but if they want to go to a "real" college, they will never make it. Maybe if they had to pay a little more and work harder to stay, they would take it more seriously and be prepared for a 4-year college when they transfered. Students less able to pay could be subsidised by other students paying more, but it would have to be contingent on maintaining good grades.

By the time you reach jr college you should be able to attend every class. Obviously the school cares more about revenue then student participation.
