sighting of a strange animal

First of all, I don't believe in UFOs or Bigfoot. My wife and I were leaving Ashland around 6:15 last Friday night and were were traveling on Route 1 North. It was somewhere between the Martin's shoppinhg center and the old Best Products, it happened. There were other cars in both lanes coming and going so we were not by ourselves. All at once in the left corner of my eye I thought I saw a brown, not gray, deer start to cross the road. As it ran it passed in front of our car and I braked to keep from hitting it. However it was no deer or any other animal I have ever seen in these parts. It was long, brownish in color, and had a very flat head. Its tail was tightly against its body. If my life depended on it and I had to say what is was, I swear it looked to be a cougar or some type of big cat. It was not a bob cat because of the tail. does anyone in Ashland have a pet big cat that got away? Did anyone else see it that night with us on Route One? Please let me know if any of you had this same experience.

Do you really think it was cat-like because it rather sounds like a coyote.

What about a Fisher? They are about the size of a large cat. I know they are in WV, not sure about Va.
