I really wish there was a rule stating that all minors had to wear helmets at their shows. Speed events can be very dangerous, especially when inexperienced riders are trying to run full speed. I have witnessed several small girls thrown or fall of their horse. I know accidents are going to happen, but taking extra precaution by a simple rule of wearing a helmet might reduce the risks of serious injury. Some of the parents also need to invest in some lessons for their children or do a better job themselves at coaching. These kids have no control of their horse the majority of the time. You can't expect the horse to just automatically do what it needs to. These kids need to learn how to properly hold the reins and direct their horse, and learn to use their seat to maintain balance. Hopefully no one will get hurt, but anyone that has any horse experience knows it's just a matter of time. Helmets just seem like a smart idea to me...I'd hate for someone to get seriously hurt and sue. I'm not sure if they are there (if they are I haven't seen them), but the club really needs to post the TN State Equine warning signs that basically say "ride at your own risk." Just something to consider.

No one does anything properly in gleason....they're all too inbred and retarded to do anything right, let alone ride a horse correctly.

Maybe your post is uncalled for. Go do something about it if your worried or else open your eyes and realize gleason has gone to the dogs and is falling apart economically and morally.

What is so bad about Gleason? True there aren't many jobs around, but there is more industry in this small town than others. And morally? The people I know there are great!

Look it people like you that really should not ride. Your to concerned in what could happen and not feeling free. Don't ruin riding just because it doesn't suit you... try not caring for once. It'll make you so much happier next time you ride. And that's the thing y'all don't get, you fall off you get back on but at the end of the day you know how much a person can take by how they care to succeed no matter the pain blood sweat and tears. Ride with helmets lol cowboys back in the good ol days never wore helmets

Seriously?! Safety does not ruin riding. People get killed on horses all the time.sounds like a valid concern to me. I've been riding for several years...including collegiate teams. Safety of the rider should always be a concern. Feeling free?! Drugs and alcohol make people feel free as well...should we not be concerned of the consequences of using? How can you say not to care? Wait until your little girl is the one that falls off her horse and gets a concussion.

even if there is no rule in place, truly concerned parents can a) choose to put their kids in helmets b) address the saddle club about creating a new rule instead of talking about it on here

As a board member at the saddle club i can tell you, anyone that wants to wear a helmet is free too. Anyone that gets on a horse is at risk to fall, it is your own responsibility to decide if you or your child needs a helmet. The club is a great place for kids and adults to enjoy a good time. We work hard to please everyone taht comes if you have any suggestions please let us know we will do what we can to please everyone. Thanks

LMFAO! Good one! These are the same kind of f*cktards who drop their babies off of tractors every year because they're too stupid to learn! That's what some of us have started calling a "late-term Gibson county abortion." LOL

For the life of me I will never understand why people write such things. If you're not willing to get in there elbow to elbow with the people that try to make it a good saddle club then just don't say anything about the people that do. Everyone is so quick to complain but never willing to help....

As far as the comments on the helmets... If you're not worried about the safety of the riders then worry about the financial ramification to the club if someone falls off and gets injured. They may sign a waiver but in the real world it isn't worth the paper itÂ’s written on. I saw a club not that many years ago shut down and the officers sued for such a situation.

Hear there is some broke back mountain stuff going on withsome of those Gleason wanna be cowboys. They do more with their ropes than lasso. Most ropers horses are stump broke. Helmets are a preference, we don't need anymore rules because of someone being scared. Use your right and wear it.
