Unleashed Dogs In JB Williams Park

First, let me say that I love dogs and have had a few of my own, however, that doesn't excuse other foolish or impolite dog owners.

It's getting tiresome trying to take enjoyable walks in J.B. Williams Park when so many people insist on letting their dogs loose to run wild and jump all over people.

For example, yesterday I took my daughter for a walk on one of the trails and there was an old man with a rambunctious older puppy. Throughout the walk we kept passing each other, and consequently four times his puppy ran away from him, chased my daughter and jumped all over her with muddy paws. Meanwhile the old man followed his dog bellowing (uselessly) for the dog to come back to him. Talk about totally ruining a peaceful walk! My daughter came out of it wet and muddy and I came to wonder why this guy didn't get the whole leash concept the first time it happened let alone the second, and third, and fourth...

This isn't the first time one, or both of us, has been jumped on by a muddy dog, or had a peaceful walk ruined by an out-of-control pet barreling at us while the clueless owner's shouts echo through the forest.

It's obvious that many dog owners are delusional about the control they have over their dogs. Even when they have to chase their dog while it is running down walkers the owners still somehow think their dog is well-behaved enough to be off leash. I was at the Academy Field watching a softball game when a truck rolled in and another clueless owner opened the door and let Fido out, sans leash. Fido tore off towards Main Street and clueless owner made a spectacle of himself for 10 minutes as he chased Fido shouting and demanding the dog come back to him. Fido ran amok until he was finally slowed by the call of nature.

Off your own property use a leash. It is often the law, but more than that it is common courtesy. There's a concept people are forgetting, "common courtesy". Consideration for others. Leashes are inexpensive. It is rude to allow your out-of-control dog to rampage in public places jumping on hapless strangers. It would save you from looking foolish while your run and shout at a dog that isn't going to listen to you.

You're right. People here seem to think that the rules apply to everyone but them. I go to JB Williams and get jumped on by several dogs before I'm done walking. Two signs at the trail entrance clearly read "All Dogs Must Be Leashed". It doesn't say except for the *special privileged people who don't have to follow the same rules as everyone else*. Some people are just rude. And selfish

It's as bad at Eastbury Pond. You can't take 2 steps without stepping in dog crap. People let their dogs crap all over and then they're too lazy to clean it up.
