Wife of Glassport officer apparently takes her life at police station

The wife of a Glassport police officer died Saturday evening as the result of an apparent suicide in the parking lot of the Glassport police station, according to Allegheny County police.

Her husband was on duty at the time.

Allegheny County homicide Lt. Andrew Schurman declined to release the name of the woman or her husband, but he said the woman was 40.

He said the shooting occurred at about 9:20 p.m. last night and that the woman had a conversation with her husband in the parking lot before the shooting.

"Right now we believe that wound was self-inflicted. She was the wife of one of the police officers. We're still in the midst of our investigation," he said.

The block around the Glassport police station was blocked off with caution tape.

Wife Of Glassport Police Officer Fires Shots At Station

GLASSPORT, Pa.-- The Medical examiner released the name of a woman who shot herself outside of the Glassport Police Station Saturday night.

Jennifer Piccini of Elizabeth was pronounced dead at Mckeesport Hospital after getting into a confrontation with officers and then shooting herself in the head. Glassport police have not made any comment on the incident yet.

A local firefighter told Channel 4 Action News that the woman walked into the police station and had an argument with the officer around 9:30 p.m. and shot at the officer before turning the gun on herself.

Allegheny County police are investigating the case. They said the officer was not hit. The officer has not been publicly identified yet.

Channel 4 Action News' Sarah Arbogast reported that a medical helicopter flew one person from the scene for treatment. That person is believed to be the woman.

Yellow tape blocked off a large area around the police station on Monongahela Avenue after the shooting. Officers from several police departments were seen there.

Shocked and horrified I posted rather incoherently last night after coming home from work shortly after the tragedy. What hatred and anger could motivate someone to make such a irreversable monsterous decision? I am really sad today.

I feel sorry for her husband, family and freinds. It would be in poor taste to elaborate on any motives of the deceased.

Sounds like another disgruntled criminal that was locked up by deverse . Lol. don't break the law and he won't bother you . But to wish death on someone for doing his job , how immature , and evil . Say it to his face and unlike Mikey , Shawn will smack you in the mouth . Just make sure he's off duty so he can enjoy it

LOL, you don't know the law federally or state wise.

LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS SAFETY ACT OF 2004

On July 22, 2004, President George W. Bush signed into law H.R. 218, the Law Enforcement officers Safety Act (LEOSA), which created a general nationwide recognition that the public is better served by allowing law enforcement officers to carry their firearms outside of their jurisdictions whether they are on or off duty. The theory behind LEOSA already was recognized among a number of states. That is, law enforcement officers retain their identity, training, experience, and dedication to the safety and welfare of the community regardless of whether they are on duty in their employer's jurisdiction, going home to another community, or merely traveling for leisure purposes.

Pennsylvania Appeals court held that because police officers are expected to provide assistance at any time, they are never off duty.

So guess what, Shawn can't smack anyone in the mouth on or off duty. He has to maintain his decorum as an officer of the law.

A person killing themselves is not a joke. Anyone that thinks it is, is a black hearted individual. She has family and friends mourning her. Show some respect. I imagine she had to be extremely depressed to do this. Prayers to her and the family.

I agree that someone dying by their own hand or by another is a serious matter. I lift up their children in prayer (which will sadly impact their lives forever) also the woman's husband (which must be devastating for him.)

I also lift up in prayer anyone who was directly involved, family members, friends, etc.. They all need a touch from the Lord so they have the ability to deal with this tragedy.

24“‘“The Lord bless you
and keep you;
25the Lord make his face shine upon you
and be gracious to you;
26the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”’
