Hey, just wondering if anyone around is preparing for a major catastrophe. If so, do you have any advice or tips for someone new to prepping? I've been watching the show on National Geographic and it doesn't seem all that crazy to be prepared for the worst!

Only the Lord can prepare anyone for the end. You didn't get yourself born and you can't get yourself saved.

The only answer to your concern is the gospel, period.
Everything else is futile.

You cannot be prepared for everything but you can take a stab at some basics that might come in handy. We know from Sandy and Katrina that the Government even though they have much more resources than the average person have been unable to provide during a disaster. Thousands are still without power from Sandy. They show up to get their pictures taken then leave for a 4 million dollar vacation to Hawaii. Your preparation will be lacking because predicting the type of disaster is impossible but the basics would be a good idea and the government suggests we do that. It is a good idea to prepare.

So you compare prepping JUST YOU for a disaster to the government providing relief to millions of people? What an idiot you are. Let the local governments handle it - that's what all you anti-Obama Fox News teat sucking morons keep preaching, isn't it?

In the months leading up to the election, New Jersey governor Chris Christie kept crying about "big government" and "socialism". But when the sh!t hit the fan with Hurricane Sandy, he was suddenly in full support of government aid.

My point exactly! They want the federal government to leave them alone when convenient for what they want (right to life, same sex marriage, etc) but want "Daddy Fed" to step in and take responsibility when it's a mess they don't want to be stuck with".

Just reading the way this thread has quickly changed, shows how easily everyone these days can become angry and bitter. Imagine if the people in this area were faced tomorrow with an apocolyptic catastrophe. When the SHTF there will be no government to help you. Prepare for the worse, hope for the best. You can't lose anything by just trying to get ready for a disaster.

We pay the federal government enough money for disaster aid. Unfortunately they are not very good at it. Obama is especially a dud, so we can't expect much if it is serious.

Christie is no more than a phony politician like Obama. Neither of them are men of good character.

Since you obviously were raised in BFE and don't have common or book sense...let us help you out. That money provided by the government for disaster relief is "our" money. The government takes it from us in the form of taxes so Obama isn't giving anything to the victims. The citizens have already paid their share for the help they received. Crack open a book every once in awhile or better yet...take a Civics class. The brain is a terrible thing to waste.

You can tell when the radical democrats show up with their black liberation, gay marriage, have a abortion, mail me a check theology. We were having a decent discussion until then. They think they will get all they need for a disaster from the federal government in the mail box on the first of the month prior to the disaster. They had better look at Fox News and find out the Obama government handles disasters.

5 gallon bucket with lid.You can buy those orange plastic bag liners that will fit the bucket. You use this for a portable bathroom. You can also use the bucket to store your emergency supplies in it to carry with you. You need stick matches, candles, bandaids, portable radios, walkie talkies, flash lights, burn creams, pain relievers, rubbing alcohol, peroxide, extra batteries, lighters, pocket knife, emergency whistles, good thing to have a duffle bag for extra stuff like dry goods, soup beans, crackers, peanut butter, any food that don't need refrigeration. You can buy those 2400 hundred calorie bars that last.Don't forget the water! You can also buy in the camping section water purification tablets in case there is no clean water around. This is just some of the things, but it gives you a general idea, hope it helps!

Christie is governor of New Jersey. Their state was needing HELP.
Any governor of any state would have done EXACTLY what Christie did. The president went there for political reason, and to have his picture made. That is the one and only time he went near the Sandy disaster. Now he is on a very nice vaction at TAXPAYERS expense. Hard to believe anyone can be so onery. Those of you who voted for him would vote him in again, if you had a chance. 59% of you are blind.
