I just saw another thread asking about pageant info for the fair. Was this event not advertised at all? I have not seen anything about the fair.

It is a total ripoff. Why is it that you can go to neighboring counties and buy an armband at reasonable prices but at the Barren County fair a family can't afford to go because they don't have $100 to blow on a handful of rides?!? My family hasn't gone in about 5 years. We just got fed up with it!

Why is there attitude with people asking about the fair. You know there are people that might have just moved here and don't know anything..

I have not been to the fair in Barren co. before, but I do know that $15 thru the week and $20 this weekend is very expensive to have to pay for rinky dink fair rides. Heck, you can add $10 and spend the entire day at Beech Bend and get unlimited FREE drinks! As someone mentioned earlier, what family has a $100 to blow on rinky dink fair rides?

I never understood why the county fair is at Temple Hill when Glasgow is the county seat.

The Barren County Fair was organized for many years in Glasgow. When the sponsoring groups could no longer handle putting on the fair (or for lack of interest) it appeared the fair was about to be history. The Temple Hill Lions Club stepped up and decided that they would try to rebuild the fair and hold it at their own location which happens to be in Temple Hill. This small group of people should be commended instead of being criticized for their hard work. The money they raise from the fair they use to make improvements to the fairgrounds site and to help with community projects.

The Glasgow Highland Games is and was organized as a tourist attraction event to bring visitors to this area who in turn spend money. It is called the GLASGOW games because of the city of the same name being in Glasgow, Scotland. The BARREN COUNTY games certainly wouldn't have any logical Scottish connection. And, FYI, our town was named for Glasgow, Virginia not Glasgow, Scotland as the Highland Games people will try to tell you; it has been very thoroughly researched by historians who know what they're doing. It is a play on words and using innuendo to create an attraction.

The games are down at the park because there isn't any place in Glasgow to hold such an event.

The primary purpose of the county fair is to hold local competitions such as beef, dairy, and horse shows, plus a floral hall as well as the pageant. There are usually 4H, FFA, and open classes and the winners go on to the state fair in late August. Without a county fair here our residents would have go enter competition in another county in order to possibly win and move on to a higher level. The carnival is NOT the purpose of the fair, it is simply an added attraction to bring in more people and make an attempt to cover expenses and possibly have a few dollars left over.

I remember when the fair was in Glasgow. It seems like if run right it could be a money maker to the town. IMO since its been at Temple Hill, it hasn't lived up to its potential.
