I am a chronic pain sufferer with spine issues that will only be getting worse with time. Plus I've had cancer as well. A person pretty much has to be referred to a pain management dr and then they still watch carefully how and what they prescribe. There is this thing called KASPER (I think that's how you spell it) and it's a database of info on medications a person has filled. I can also be called in anytime for a pill count or urine sample which I don't have a problem with because I need my meds too much to be giving or selling or whatever to anybody else. Drug abuse is such an epidemic and it's so sad that people who need them can't get them yet somehow these pillheads can always get them.

<quoted text> NO! You wrong! They can't give shots. That is made clear on Urgent Care's sign.
You are simply unaware, but they can give injections (it is discouraged, but not illegal). I assume you're going through withdraws from your pain medications and are very upset... But get over it, they didn't want to give *you* a pain shot.

I am not unaware! I don't know about being illegal but UrgentCare is not providing pain injections. It is because of some kind of new legislation and not because my Dr doesn't want to "give" me a shot. Sometimes this is the treatment needed, pain has to be treated! It in itself can cause other problems-such as high blood pressure, stress related heart problems,etc.... I completly understand & agree something should be done about people doctor shopping or selling pills. I don't know what the answer is but I do know that these decisions should not be taken out of the hands of doctors

If you have a chronic condition that causes pain, then you should be followed by a pain management doctor instead of misusing a facility that is for urgent care crisis. Urgent care should not be your primary care doctor. The new legislation does not say that a doctor cannot give you a pain shot, but he/she needs to research and see where else your are going and what other medications you have suckered off of other unsuspecting doctors. If you aren't and addict or a junkie then you should have not problem seeing a regular doctor for pain.

This is due to fact that so many people abusing the system and pain medication. It is a problem here but not has bad as Eastern part of the state. It is not targeting certain M.D.'s , ER's. or payor sources, rich or poor!
It has been were M.D. and E.R could run a Kasper report for a while now, now it is a requirement facilities have to run report before treatment (in which shows where you have been and how many times you have been to all M.D.'s along with all pharmacy's, and ER visits, and why, and prescriptions.
This should crack down on all the bogus visits, and presciption writing.

I don't think you realize that Urgent Clinic can be used for or as a persons primary doctor. If you don't have great insurance, this office is less expensive. It also has hours more accomodating (usually til 8pm). Like alot of people, you are assuming the worse case senario: addicts with no insurance shopping for pain scripts. Truth is: there are legit patients who come to see our PRIMARY doctor at Urgent Clinic for colds, allergies, sprains and yes......pain treatment. I'm not b*tching because I can't get a pain injection. My complaint is MY doctor, that for personal reasons happens to be at U/Clinic, couldnt give me one IF that is what he saw fit.

Many insurance carriers require you to use the urgent care facalitys because of contracts and lower costs. I have been using Urgent Care for 12+ years and am completely satisfied. It sure beats waiting 2-4 weeks for an appointment and if you're sick you can see the doctor that day. They are open 7 days a week and you can go when it fits your schedule. If it's serious enough they will not hesitate to refer you to a specialist.

You are exactly right. I'm not required to go there but the cost of office visits are less so once ins pays their 80% my 20% is very little. Then take into account most times a person doesn't have to take off work since the urgent clinic is open early to late...
...and by the way, WHO ever said these places weren't "meant" to be used as your regular doctor?? There is no "rule" or "recommendation" about that. Truth be told- if the gov't wants to control things then they would rather me or you to go to only one or the other. Not go to a "9-5" dr when I'm able to schedule it then go to U/C when I need to get in after hours or can't get in quick enough to the other...THIS might look like so called dr shopping!

Do you even know what you're talking about or are you just talking to see your lips move?
