When I turn on my television set and I see the TJ Sampson commercial it makes me sick to see that crap. I took my wife to the hospital Sunday night and we waited 5 and half hours without seeing a doctor. They were other people there also that were very very sick and couldnt get any attention. Two examples an older man was there having serious chest pains was waiting at least four hours and a woman had a busted blatter and didnt get looked at. The hospital had only one doctor treating all these people this is a crime. U have to pay money just walking in the door and thats wrong.

I was in Baptist Hosp. East emergency in Louisville for more than 12 hours with my appendix. Tremdous pain and vomited until there was nothing to vomit, just heaving. They were out of IV poles so they layed the solution beside me, and had it turned up so high that I went to the bathroom every 10 minutes and the solutin bags had to be replaced. Try making it to the bathroom over and over while holding an IV bag, vomiting, and hurting so bad you wish you could die. Then they had the nerve to ask me for a urine sample. As soon as I woke up from surgery I got the heck out despite doctors orders. They wanted me to stay overnight but I didn't want them to kill me.

Point is, they are all understaffed. Baptist Hospital is supposed to be an excellant hospital and most people say to go there if you are sick or hurt. My experience was bad and I will not go back there. The problem with TJ is there are so many medical card people in this area that use the hospital like a doctors office or to socialize with their friends they run into there. It doesn't matter if they stubbed their toe, its free and they go to the hospital. The hospital HAS to see them. It makes it more difficult for really sick or hurt people. The system needs work so that these people go to doctors rather than clog up emergency rooms.

Pam, I'm very glad to see that you understand why there is such a long wait at the ER at TJ. They shouldn't get mad at the doctor, they should be mad at all the people in there that is getting their medical care for free. Frequent flyers often come in for the sniffles, stubbed toe, or a tummy ache. They will always have anywhere from 3 to 5 people in tow, behaving as if they are at the local county fair. They always have a coke and chips or candy bar in their hands.

It's pitiful, but that is they way it is. Be mad at them, not the Doctor having to see them all. It's an Emergency Room, but the welfare dogs want it to be at their convenience and for, as you said, a social place to go and pass the time.

i just rescently got a medical card and i would rather eat a turd then sit in the e.r .i will wait to see my dr unless i think im dying .i have to be really really sick to sit out there and scared.but they do need more doctors to tend to the patients .you all are making having a med card is bad .its not .its abusing them that is wrong. the thing that upsets me the most is drs dont care boot hootin about people anymore. but i also dont understand someone who goes to the er and sit out there if they dont need to .somethings can wait till monday morning.some cant. i guess they get so many fakers out there that they just dont believe anyone is relly sick .i have been out there and a little boy was bleeding where he gashed his chin open and nobody gave him a rag or nothing .he had to hold it in his hands. an old man was so sick he was in a wheelchair and he couldnt hold his head up they didnt even come out and check on him or offer him a spot to lie down. i was out there with an elderly family member. the little black receptionist was just sitting there doing nothing ,she could get up and see if some are ok or comfy or need something .you can tell whos sick and who needs a pain pill .or snotty nose.theres bad people and theres bad employees.

We as a comunity need to all send these comments to the CEO of the hospital, and /or a board member. Right, they won;t care, but if enough people send them, something will have to get done. As bad as the GDT is, an article to the editor works wonders. I agree something has got to change, I don;t have the answer, but then again, that's why they have CEO's, directors, and a board. Bombard them with e/mails and complaints, something will happen.

We went there one day. There was only one person in front of us and we were there 3 hours. Explain that one.

You don't say why you were at the ER but people who use an ER for a family dr is a real problem in the health care industry. Maybe they are trying to discourage such use by making non emergency people wait.

On a personal note, I have been to the ER at TJ twice. Once for chest pain and once for abdominal pain, both potentially serious conditions. I was taken back immediately with no wait at all.

As for the poster mentioning the child with a cut on his chin and blood all over his clothing, I am sure this looked serious but in reality, this does not sound like a life threatening situation. Therefore, other patients would be put ahead of him.

A local Kentucky hospital has had to shut its maternity ward. They no longer care for pregnant women/newborn babies, even in emergency unless its NOT pregnancy related. They closed due to lack of funds. Elderly friends of mine have to change medications and doctors due to lack of reimbursement from Medicare and private insurance and their health is suffering. Doctors are choosing not see patients who have Medicare, Medicaid, or certain private insurances. People on medical assistance in Oregan who have serious or terminal diseases or injuries are given a choice. They can pay for the medical care they need on their own, or they can take the pills that the state gives them that will end their lives.
Obama has nothing to do what is happening to healthcare in this country now. It is the insuance and drug companies that have us bending over a barrel. I don't know if what the government is proposing is any better or will fix our problems, but I do know that something must be done. I do know that it will not be free. We all pay health insurance now that comes out of our paychecks, those of us that use it. Rather than paying for private insurance, the money will be taken out by the government for the healthcare program, so it will be just like switching insurance carriers. The company I work for switches insurance all the time to try to get us better deals. Maybe if the government becomes more involved in the healthcare system, all the ignorant people who clog emergency rooms and doctors offices will have to become more responsible. I'm sick and tired of lazy people being able to get medical treatment for free while I have to think about how much it'll cost me to go to a doctor or get medication. Maybe they should have 2 waiting areas in hospitals. One for lazy socializing people who hurt their toe or need pills to sell on the corner, and one for people who work for their insurance and are seriously sick or hurt.

TJ Sampson knows how to staff the ER. It's a profit center, they know they are the only game in town.
Actually that's incorrect. Why do uninsured people go to the ER? Because the ER has to look at them even if they don't have insurance. That isn't the same when dealing with a private practice. The private doctors can refuse you treatment, and almost all do, if you do not have insurance.
So, if all these people were to get public insurance they would be able to see a private doctor that will now see them since they have insurance instead of having to go to the ER.

I know for a fact that if you tell them your're paying for you're treatment (instead of using a medical card) you're moved to the front of the line.

HE SHOULDNT HAVE BEEN LEFT THERE TO SIT AND BLEED ALL OVER A STERILE HOSPITAL AND OTHER PATIENTS SITTING AROUND THAT. THEY COULD HAVE OFFERED A RAG OR SOMETHING .IF IT WAS A SMALL CUT IT WAS ALL OVER THE PLACE .IM SURE HE HAD TO HAVE STITCHES

if people would do regular cleanses and take care of themselves and go all naturall with herbs alot of this sickness would go away .every drug you take has a lawsuit commercial behind it some months down the road .but oh well .since its afdc approved you think its harmless.WRONG!!! id hate to know that my family member dies from a new script and then i have a lawsuit .the older meds wasnt like this .if its safe for human consumption why are we all dying .i quit taking all dr meds and went strictly to herbal resources .i was sick for 3 years .it took a while to get all the junk out of my body but i feel better now hen i ever did .used to you could go to the dr and get better .now you go and 10 years later you still have problems .HELLO PEOPLE!!!

Good post and points, Pam...

I think they need to have a surcharge of at least five dollars for the Medical cards carrying patients. Too much for them, one might ask? I don't think so. They stop at the coke and candy machine and sure do spend alot there. Plus out of the 4 to 6 that come with them to gawk and eavesdrop, I'm sure they can afford at least a dollar between them. I mean, the dollar for the show they see is worth it to them, if you just watch them.

Medicaid recipients have a $2 co-pay at a Dr's office but I do not know about a co-pay at an ER.
