I do not wear Dentures, but work in the field. I highly recommend "Super Wernets Denture Powder". You can call different Pharmacies to see which one has it. Remember you still have to clean the dentures, gunk removal will help insure a proper fit. I would also suggest you use an antibacterial mouth wash, to keep your palate and gums healthy. One thing to remember is that a lower denture will not fit and function as well as the upper. And both will allow you to eat and smile, but they are never going to be as good as what you were born with. I only say this to give you a realistic expectation. I hope this helps and you do well with them.

I've tried every adhesive known to man including Wernets and the original polygrip is by far the best overall ... Sure Wernets holds great for 30 minutes to an hour , but who wants to have to reapply their adhesive every hour or so ... Fixodent holds better than polygrip , but it only last for a few hours too ... For me polygrip holds my top plate tight for over 24 hours and the bottom for close to 12 hours ... Sure the bottom plate is always going to give more trouble ... There's less surface area to work with and the constant movement of your lower jaw make that pretty obvious ...
Dr. Thurman in Glasgow made the castings for my dentures from my orignal teeth , removed my teeth , and fitted my dentures ... My two plates combined cost almost 1400 bucks , but they look identical to my real teeth ... Well other than the fact they are much whiter , but that was my choice ... People I've known for years don't know I wear dentures unless I tell them ... I lost my teeth due to paradontal desease , and I have no regrets having my teeth yanked ... True there not as good as your orignal teeth , but no doubt they are alot less painful overall ... It's estimated that 1 out of 5 Americans have paradontis ... The people that have this condition can relate to the pain Im referring to ... Dealing with the pain involved with training your gums to dentures is nothing compared to the pain of having your gums erode from around your roots ... I suffered with paradontis way too many years ... I wish I had have got my dentures alot sooner than I did ...

Who is a good dentist to get a set of lower dentures made? I have had my upper dentures made since 1983 and they fit perfect, unfortunately the dentist that made them for me has since passed away. I've always heard that lower dentures are the hardest to get used to. When my upper teeth were pulled, my false teeth were immediately put in. I have never had any problems with them. So, now I need lower dentures made by a good dentist. HELP!

Dr. Thurman in Glasgow is great ... I had all of my teeth pulled and both plates put in the same day ... I've had very little problems ...

There could be several reasons you are having problem. First, how long were your teeth out before you had th dentures made? where did you get the dentures made?

I have had mine since 1982, I was 22 when I got them. I've had them re-aligned once. I sleep with them in and everything, my husband of 26 years has only "seen" me with out them a handful of times as well as my children. No one knows that I have dentures. They ARE part of me.
I would do it again in a heart beat.
Congradulations you will learn to treasure them.

oh, what fun and great advise. I want to shuck my mouth. I hate what is going on because I am still in the srage of adjustment. It is great to hear your stories. I really expexted more - meaning - I could eat again. Instead, I continue to loose weight and gag. Yech. I want my teeth back. I want to get over this awful feeling that is almost like adolescence. My mouth is clunsy, painful, and gives me PMS. I would like to have my dentist castrated and idolized. Go figure.

i have had dentures for about two months and every thing hmmm said is true,,, cave they should have gave us counciling on how it would change our lives, but they dont and i found the best way was to talk to ppl about my teeth as though i had just bought a new pair of shoes, lol, hey you will be surprised how many ppl have an interest in how we manage with them , as not many ppl talk openly about them, i too sunk into depression, but not for long , i told myself i lost my teeeth not an arm or leg, but having said that it is a struggle, im now working full time and its hell at dinner time, but i take soup in now, lol, one thing i will say, i wouldnt smile like i do now with my old teeth and you know what that white smile will always be there, how many ppl with their own can say that, lol, as far as dating is concerned well im not having any probs with that infact they love my smile and even without teeth they see me now whats missing in my mouth.. learn to see the funny side in any truma in your life, if its not you, then make it you lol. i can eat many things just using polygrip, but its my mind thats stops me when im at work, because i feel arkward. so you see hmm was right!!! its not the dentures that are wrong, its our way of thinking, once thats achieved hey the worlds our oyster.. good luck !!!

I've read all the posts on this site and no-one has mentioned the taste of food. I loved the taste of food but now find most nearly tasteless and eat just because I am hungry. One meal a day {dinner} except for coffee in the morning. No liquids or snacks in between. I have convinced myself it is because my uppers cover my hard palate. Am I alone in this? I also use Fixodent paste which lasts me one day but just heard of some law suits relating to dental pastes. Is everything in this world unsafe or harmful? Maybe I'll try Gorilla glue or duct tape. LOL

Wow guys...who ever started this thread did me a great favor. I have to have all my teeth pulled because I have receeding gums and am on alot of medications which don't help and hereditary. I wear a "flipper" now where I had to have my front teeth pulled. I've been wearing this since 1992 and I still can't get used to the gagging problems I get. It also hurts my gums (I guess because my gums are so sore). I can just imagine how it would be from dentures. They say wear them all the time and you'll get used to them. When I was young, I had perfect teeth. At 17 I only had one cavity. Once my wisdom teeth came in, it was all down hill from there. However, not being able to eat would be OK for awhile haha because I could stand to lose a few pounds. But really, everybody on here have helped me alot. I hope it did for the original poster too.
