Drs Dunn and Drury are taking new patients with the exception of pain management patients. They are located in Edmonton right beside Sav A Lot. They both admit and make rounds at TJ Samson. Good luck!

The Glasgow Family Physicians has a sign up saying that they are accepting new patients. There are several doctors in that office, Travis, Gilson, Bale, Purvis, Clouse, Asriel, and a couple nurse practitioners too.

That "family practice thing" has 14 full time physicians on staff. They are ALL "REAL" doctors with a license to practice medicine. As it is a residency program, some of them are still in training But hear this - THEY ARE ALL LICENSED PHYSICIANS! Once they graduated from medical school they can practice medicine. They don't HAVE to do a residency. I'd rather go to a Dr. that is trying to better their skills than to some 70 year old fart that just prescribes drugs all the time.

And they always take ANY patient - regardless of insurance OR the lack of it.

You might want to look at Primary Care Physcian thread back in May. There were quite a few posts about the area doctors.

DR Avula in smiths grove
excellent
and he is intrenal medicine ( board certified)
family practice docs are good for colds sneezing and constipation.
go to a internal medicine doc
3 years of family practice residency 1 month rotatn in 1 field doest notmake you an expert
also family med docs will not refer u to a specialist....... some big ego, don't really know why???
i will always pick internal med doc... they are trained full 3 years in adult medicine
and they refer apropritely when needed.

They DO HAVE to do a residency, it IS required. However I must agree that they are wonderful MDs. They care about their patients

Family Med. WILL refer you to a specialist. Family practice just means that they will see children and adults. Internal Med. is only adults. There are more specifications to the two but that is the basic idea.

Drs. Thornberry, Wright, Purvis, Drury, Dunn, Williams and Jones are all graduates from the Family Practice residency and have stayed in the area.

If you want to be board certified as a family practice physician, then yes. If you just want to open up a general practice and start seeing patients, you just need to get your degree and pass the license test. No residency required. You have no certification and probably few patients though.

What you are saying is simply not true. Family practice doctors are the pivot point of ALL medical practice. Go see your cadiac specialist for your heart value trouble. But tell them that you are diabetic, on anti-depressants, have gout, have any other ailment besides heart related and they are CLUELESS how to treat the big picture. 99% of the time these "specialists" need to call in a Family Practice physician on a consult to manage the OVERALL healthcare of the patient while the specialist does their one thing.

Your comment that they are good only for colds, sneezing and constipation shows just how absolutely frickin' clueless you are.

Many won't refer you to a specialist BECAUSE YOU DON'T NEED ONE! Why do you need to be referred to a surgeon to have a mole removed when they are capable of doing it? Why do you need to be referred to an Orthopedics Specialist when you have a simple twisted ankle? Family Practice doctors can meet 90% of your medical needs. Believe me - when they need to refer you they do. They don't want to get sued for doing something to you outside their expertise. The REAL problem is that everyone is always demanding a specialist, not realizng the a Family Practice Doc IS a specialist - at treating you as a whole person.

You are clueless also.

Why do you think they are called FAMILY practice? So they CAN take care of the whole family.

They know more about medicine as a whole art than ANY specialist. I'd go to a family doc over any other type.
