What happened was selfish and horrible. I feel sorry for his family. Once you have kids something as selfish as suicide is no longer an option. I don't care how sick you are. Now his kids are going to grow up without a father, his family is without their primary income and there won't even be life insurance to help them financally. There had to be some other way than to destroy his entire family.

Dr. Marcol was my doctor and he and became good freinds. He was an avid Kentucky fan. He loved his basketball. I for one will miss him and his sense of humor. Prayers foe his family. God bless the Marcol family. RIP Doc!!!

You have no clue what you are talking about. You really would make more since trying to hold a conversation with a fence post. At least the two of you would have about the same I.Q.
Dr. Marcol was not a selfish man at all and he was doing very well for himself here so I have no doubt that his family will be taken care of financially. It's no ones business anyway including mine but before you go calling him names just stop and try to understand what he must have felt like being a man who worked with his hands and then all of a sudden losing that ability. Maybe he didn't want his kids to see him like that and he probably would have become completely crippled at some point. I wouldn't want my children to see me like that either. None of us knows what he was dealing with but I do know how he treated me as a human being and a patient and he couldn't have done it any better.

Suicide is not something for you to judge. Read a book, will ya?

David Foster Wallace said:

“The so-called ‘psychotically depressed’ person who tries to kill herself doesn’t do so out of quote ‘hopelessness’ or any abstract conviction that life’s assets and debits do not square. And surely not because death seems suddenly appealing. The person in whom Its invisible agony reaches a certain unendurable level will kill herself the same way a trapped person will eventually jump from the window of a burning high-rise. Make no mistake about people who leap from burning windows. Their terror of falling from a great height is still just as great as it would be for you or me standing speculatively at the same window just checking out the view; i.e. the fear of falling remains a constant. The variable here is the other terror, the fire’s flames: when the flames get close enough, falling to death becomes the slightly less terrible of two terrors. It’s not desiring the fall; it’s terror of the flames. And yet nobody down on the sidewalk, looking up and yelling ‘Don’t!’ and ‘Hang on!’, can understand the jump. Not really. You’d have to have personally been trapped and felt flames to really understand a terror way beyond falling.”

I believe that one is only thinking of themself when suicide is the only option. To be in that state of mind only the person committing the act knows how they feel at that moment. End of life is their way out! So, yes one could say it is a selfish act. The survivors are the one's that endur the emotion after the act. Prayers for them to deal with this in the days to come.

I agree Shut up! You were not there, he was a great man and I spent a day with the family. Don't start preaching your hate. The family needs our support and our prayers.

This is Topix, anything on here will get negative feedback regardless of the situation. If you don't want to read it, skim over it or simply close out of the website. Whining and fussing over peoples comments will only fuel the fire.

I don't hate anyone and I agree he was a nice man. I've met him and his family on several occasions. That's why I'm saying it was selfish. The emotional fallout for his family is going to be enormous. His kids are more likely to become depressed, experiment with drugs and have meaningless relationships. I don't know what he was thinking or feeling or anything like that. Like I said before, when you have a family, suicide is never the answer.

Dr. Marcol was a dear person, but apparently he was just thinking of himself when he committed suicide. Anyone with self respect for his love ones would not shoot himself dead in his home to be found by his loved ones. How do you think his wife and kids would think as they pass the area in there home where he killed himself. If he wanted to kill himself. Drive your car into a lake...

He wasn't able to work anymore anyways. I am sure that made him feel useless and less of a man. So, therefore his family had ALREADY lost their primary income!! Also, being a dr you know that he knew what was to come with his illness and he didnt want to endure this and the burden on his family to see that and to have to care for him!! He was used to being the caregiver/the provider! So, the contrary, I see it as he was trying to be unselfish and not wanting to burden his family that HE SEEN as he was no use to anymore, anyways! I however, do not agree with suicide and know it puts such a hurt/blame on families/friends but we have to be more empathetic and try to think of how he must have been feeling!! Just pray poeple, what is wrong with you? LOVE and PRAY for our community, his friends, and most importantly, his kids and wife!!!

I am heart broken to hear the news of Dr. Marcol's death. It's a shame that he had a disease that was taking over his body, inside and out. He was certainly ravaged by this to the point of irreversible depression. Would it have made any of you feel better to have seen him completely immobilized, uncapable of caring for himself? I suspect that these were his thoughts, not to mention the pain he was in from the effects of his illness. I NEVER condone suicide yet this educated man decided to take the path of least resistance and not face future devastation. How dare anyone dispute his actions. It is done. May his family find comfort through the love and understanding of those who understand and care.
