Glasgow man sentenced to 36 mos. in federal prison

By SUSAN TEBBEN Glasgow Daily Times

GLASGOW — A Glasgow man was sentenced in federal court on drug charges from 2010, though a clerical error in a court document gives inaccurate information about his plea deal, according to his attorney.

Bernis Wayne Rupe Jr., last known address on Settles Road in Glasgow, was sentenced in July to 36 months in a federal prison, along with three years of supervised release, based on a plea deal with the United States District Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky.

Rupe pleaded guilty to knowingly possessing a North American .22 caliber derringer on Nov. 9, 2010, while unlawfully possessing a methamphetamine precursor, according to court documents. The charge had a maximum prison term of 10 years, fine of $250,000 and three years supervised release.

In return for his guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to dismiss the charge of possession of anhydrous ammonia in an unapproved container with the intent to manufacture meth.

He was arrested with a co-defendant after the Barren County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a possible burglary on Spencer Road and Rupe led law enforcement on a chase that ended on Wildcat Road.
