I have two children, one was born in Louisville, and one was born in Cambellsville. I never used drugs while I was pregnant, not even pot. My second child was born premature with a hole in her heart and underdevolped lungs...TO all the ppl on here that keep insisting that nurseries drug test newborns, and the mothers- I was NEVER screened for drugs, and neither were either of my children, not even the one they had to stat flight to Kosairs NICU. EVERY single mother and child in this whole damned country ARE NOT drug screened, I CANNOT make that any clearer. Do you ppl have ANY idea how much money it would cost to screen everyone? That is totally absurd. The only babies or mothers who get drug screened are the ones that come in and lead the doctor to strong suspicions that they may be using drugs. If the doctor chooses, they can test you, but you have to consent to the test first. Likewise with your child. If, when your baby is born, they feel the need to test for drugs in its system, you as their parent and legal guardian must give consesnt to the analysis. Keep in mind however, that if you refuse to consent, the hospital can report it and have an official over ride your decision based upon the welfare of the child.
In my OWN experience....I sat by my daughters bedside in the NICU for many weeks...there were several infants there who were born with terrible defects and problems due to crack and heroin use by the mother during pregnancy...one of these babies was not expected to live. The other cried constantly without ceasing, due to withdraw (this was the infant born addicted to crack) they had to put a feeding tube in him because he wouldnt even quit crying long enough to eat. The staff finally decided it was kinder to sedate him. His mother was taken into custody, he had no father. He was never given a name. The nurses simply called him "the crack baby" when they thought no one was listening. But you know what I DIDNT see the whole time I was there? There were NO babies in there because their mothers smoked pot. NONE. I am NOT advocating smoking anything while pregnant, but there have been highly scientific studies in pediatrics that suggests marijuana actually does not harm the fetus..I myself would personally not take the risk...but..it IS food for thought. After all, how much longer is this state going to consider marijuana illegal? That is absurd in itself, IMO.
I hate to tell you the truth....EVERY baby is tested and they DO NOT have to have consent. It is a routine practice th ensure that the baby is not going to suffer withdraw if the mother was on drugs. As I stated before, the childs feces and urine are tested, without consent.

Weed ISN'T a drug like cocaine or heroin. It's a natural plant. There's no proven statistics that it can do anything to your baby besides cause ADHD or a slower learning rate. People can function when they're high from weed. Therefore, just because someone smokes weed, doesn't mean they can't take care of their baby after it's born. It doesn't have any effect like alcohal.

different places have different procedures and if you do not give them a reason to suspect you are on drugs or if your baby is not addicted then they wont test your baby but yes they do a test on the babys stool and it goes back to 5 months but its not in every state some hospitals are not aloud unless they have suspected reason to and then they have to consult with you first.

I am the product of a pothead mom. She's smoked everyday she was pregnant and I turned out extremely smart and advanced in all of my schoolwork. I was also born at a healthy weight (9 lbs. 1 oz) My mom is not a skank and is a great mom. I turned out to smoke pot myself and still do great in everything I do. pot does not affect your baby. The way you raise your baby affects ur baby. So get your facts straight about marijuana and how it affects your child before you bash it.

Hell ya Sarah Stoner! You tell 'em! Let's roll up some poison Ivy and smoke the hell out of it because it's a natural plant too, isn't it? Just because you can do it doesn't mean it's a smart thing to do it. Why do you smoke pot? Because it f*cks with your nervous system and gets you "high", right? If it didn't cause a change in your body you wouldn't spend the grocery money on it if it didn't do something for you, right? In your "educated" opinion it's okay for a mother to be responsible for her childrens safety when her body and brain is being affected by a substance that makes her lay around in a fog and mellowed out like a zombie? I suppose when you are in lala land you really don't care what your latest flavor-of-the-month boyfriend is doing to your babies in another room. Maybe he is letting your babies do what you think is so innocent...getting high and chillin' with their new daddy. It's all good and it's all natural, huh Sarah Stoner?

They say that smoking pot kills brain cells and those dead brain cells don't magically come back to life. You are the poster child for dumb ass stoners with no brain cells to spare.

So are you trying to convince us to all smoke weed while pregnant? That's what your post relays to me. I don't think I'll use it while I'm pregnant because I don't want my kid to have a slow learning rate or ADHD.

Yeah, well they don't test newborns enough! I knew some one that did meth the whole time she was pregnant, except two days before she had a c- section. You couldn't tell her anything. All she cared about was getting her high. Well,at the babys first check up they found a heart murmur.Well, of coarse the doctors don't know why! The baby is sick all the time and has been in the hospital several times with ear infections and chest infections. I'm not around this girl so I don't know what she does now,got this info thru the grapevine. So all you people that do drugs while your pregnant that think it's not going to hurt my baby, think again!

Uh Shelby...you might want to back off of being a poster child for pot smoking mothers-to-be. Your post was simply your simple opinion. So get your facts straight and actually present facts before you attempt to call your opinions fact. I'm sure little red flags are flying and lights are flashing in your head because you don't understand what I just said. Calm down. Smoke a fatty and try to remember what it is that we were talking about. lol

If your so-called "intelligence" is the shining example and the result of a pot smokin' mama-to-be...a lot of stoners are going to be upset with your representation. LMMFAO! Puff-puff-give, smoke dawg! It's Friday, you ain't got a job and I'm gonna get you high Einstein!

This goes to mother in munfordville:
I hate to burst your bubble but every baby born is drug tested by using the urine and the feces. The parents do not have to give consent as the baby is tested for lots of things, not just drugs. When the mother signs into the hospital or any patient for that matter, the paper you sign for consent for treatment, gives them the right to test your bodily fluids, waste whatever for anything they think is necessary except for hiv. That is one test that has a seperate consent form. So you may never know that you were tested or your baby for that matter, unless something shows up. I've worked in the nursery and know all of this for a fact. I didnt believe it until I witnessed it myself.

Every newborn should be tested for drugs in their system immediately upon being born. That's the only hope these innocent babies have of ever having a decent life. Sterilize the crackhead ho mama, send her on her way and place the baby in a decent, loving, safe home. Problem solved.

This is to all of those people making comments saying that she should have her baby taken away. If you pulled your heads out of your asses and did a little research you would know that TetraHydraCannibinoid (THC) the main drug in weed is not addictive therefore the baby will not have withdrawals. And it is actually proven that babies who were exposed to THC in the womb, b/c as we know anything that mother takes in baby takes in, are developmentally smarter. They are also more calm and tend not to cry as much. Also the presence of ADD(attention deficit disorder) and ADHD(attention deficit hyperactive disorder) is less in babies exposed to THC in the womb. So it is ashame that the state would take a baby away for the use of something that shouldn't even be cobsidered a drug. It grows in the ground and is not man made or chemically altered so even for the religious folks it is indeed a product of god correct. I mean all seed came from god according to the bible. And the only reason it was made illegal in the first place was because of a slander campaign put out by the heads of the timber industry so that they would not lose profit b/c hemp( the stalk of the mj plant) is a better and stronger medium than wood.
I'm done informing everyone of our governments short comings and in closing GOOD LUCK TO YOUR FRIEND. I hope she has no problems!

Tommy boy you are living proof that if you dig deep enough on the net you can find just about any ole test results your heart desires! lol Boy for a drug that isn't addictive those pot crops have kept the Mexican Drug Cartel in business for many many years and it's a very lucrative business for them. It's not addictive yet grown men and women will spend the grocery money and the money for rent on pot first then sort of worry about being hungry or evicted after they aren't high anymore...or they just get stoned again. I bet their kids will disagree with your bottom of the barrel statistics that pot isn't addictive. Bullshit! My dad was a pothead and he couldn't quit long enough to pass a drug test to get a job so we stayed on welfare and then he got disability and smoked more pot than ever...because his back hurt from laying on it and getting stoned 24/7. You don't know what the hell you are talking about fool.

To been there...the way that you speak makes it obvious that you have never done any research on that topic. You are answering with an opinion and opinions are ok but not relevant to the topic at hand. Scientific research is based on statistics not on opinions. There are what is considered people with addictive personalities who can become addicted to anything from ice cream to shooting heroin. Did you ever take the time to think that maybe your father started smoked marijauna to alleviate the back pain that was most likely caused by years of manual labor, if not another relevant medical condition. It is unfortunate that the people with these medical conditions have to shell out their own money to get it, because it is not federally legal for medical use.
Thank you for your opinion.

I can see if it were prescription pills with needles or something, but don't ever wish someone's baby to be taken from them you ignorant bitch. NO, it does not harm the fetus. And NO, they don't drug test you when you are having a baby unless they notice track marks or some other sign of drug abuse. Idiot. Good Luck with the baby, by the way!!:)

I believe you can't judge unless you've been in the situation, I know for a fact that eating marijuana foods actually has alot of nutrition for the baby and mom, but smoking anything is bad for the baby. Still it's not like this person was asking if it's ok to smoke meth while pregnant, your opinion was not what she asked so please keep that OPINION ( not fact ) to your self!!
