From reading the article in the Washington County news, the little league is taking money away from the kids and buying plane tickets for it's members! As a parent, I am outraged! I know there are some kids that are playing that have parents that can't afford part of the uniform. Money that could be used to provide the kids the whole uniform is being used to help it's members.
The president of the little league should be ashamed! I understand that his arguement of people trying to help our kids, by fixing the field(which is not the little league's)- but when he takes money away from them by buying a plane ticket and not giving it the kids, he is covering up something.
My child is not playing little league this year, but if my child was playing I would a little upset to know that little league funds where not being used in the way that they should. As a parent, I want to know what other spending they are doing behind everyone's back.

I think it's a shame how the TOWN has done to PAUL RUSSELL!!!!! All I have seen him do is to improve the ballpark!

Most people think its a shame that The pres allowed Paul to coach in the first place, sence he was forced out of Abingdon little league. If he was a jerk to those kids and parents, it was a good chance he would be a jerk to ours too and has been. I would have pulled my son out of playing before that man would ever coach him!

As for the town stuff- if you don't own it, then you have to get permission from the owners before you just assume that you can demo and rebuild. That man thinks he is invincible. I think the town made a good choice.

If you were a parent who really knew, then you would know that historically the LL has always done their own maintanance without the Town even being involved. The only reason they got involved this time is because the tornado offered up chances to collect insurance money that they, the town, would most likely use elsewhere. If they feel the need to ban people for the volunteer work that they have done at the LL field, then they have about 15 more people to go!

The Town actions, just like your post were done for personal reasons that had nothing to do with Little League and definitely
not with the children's best interest in mind!

I'm not defending Mr. Russell but the Town was the wrong (and greedy) in this deal.

Just to add to what Bill posted, as long as i've lived here and been involved with the town- anytime you wanted to do anything at those fields you had to get permission. and 2 or 3 quotes to buy things, go through the council's votes to paint, get a water pipe fixed, get a speaker fixed. and so on. unless things have changed a whole lot in the past 10+ years, you couldnt do a thing for that field with out the town giving u the go ahead.
I don't have any idea about tornado money- but it wouldnt surprise me. but i do know they always made everybody get permission to work over there. and usually that man that used to be at the town shop did everything hisself. fixed it all. took him forever, but they wouldnt ever let any body else do work.
its a crooked place. ive said for years, some man in our community who has a bunch of land needs to give it to that league and get it out of the town and let those kids have it to play ball.

That couldn't be further from the truth. That field was built by Little League volunteers and has been maintained by Little League volunteers for the last 15 to 20 years!!! I know, I've been one of them!!!!

Well I say Mr. Russell got what he deserved. He thinks he's above everyone and tries to run everything he get's his hands on. Maybe this will teach him a lesson.

It's hard to soar with the eagles when the town's run by woodpeckers...or is that peckerwoods?

I overheard someone at Dunn field talking about the situation on Monday and I found it very interesting that Mr. Russell was the only one who is being blamed. When in fact, Anthony McFarlane, helped him do all the work! I am very curious to ask if all this is personal against Mr. Russell and if not, why isn't Mr. McFarlane being blamed along with Mr. Russell?

It was personal as well as a couple people just wanted to flex and show that they were important. You know...we had this tornado and I STEPPED UP and saved the day, type thing. At least, that's my opinion!

Unlike the Town Council, I'm sure that if he or his wife had said okay that they wouldn't be crying later when it was done.

When election times comes around again, remember what our current Mayor and Council think of our children!

How much use do they think the tennis courts will get before they are damaged? Why haven't they repaired the basketball goals when there are many youths that use them daily? What about all the holes and other dangers that abound at the park, is it gonna take an injury and lawsuit first?

Several people want the town to dissolve and our town officials are making their arguments valid!

Problem with most residents in Glade Spring, is that they don't know what the REAL story is! Basketball Goal were replaced a year ago, the tennis court and most of the other improvements are done from a donation. I'm sorry, but if someone gives you FREE money to fix up the park, YOU TAKE IT. The problem is the youths. They don't appreciate what is there. They like to mess up everything and then other people don't want blame the youths, they want to blame the town.
The Town has nothing againist the little league in my opinion. They are protecting the residents' money. I'm sorry for Paul Russell for being banned, BUT, when you mess up property that isn't yours, not once, not twice, but 4 times- you get what you got coming. He best be lucky that he didn't get jail time.

Piper, you're as clueless as you claim "most residents in Glade" are!!! You stated, "If someone offers you free money to fix up the park, you take it". Well if someone offers you free materials and labor to fix up the park, don't you suppose you should take that too, not change your word and BAN THEM!!! When basketball goals are used as much as those at the park, you should expect to have to REPAIR them, it's called wear and tear. As far as protecting the residents money, don't we the residents pay a police force to patrol and protect our park, but instead they all work the same shifts and follow each other around.

Yes Piper, let's blame the kids, shame on them for wanting to play at a safe and well maintained park!!! If they would only stay at home, the Town could buy 6 more police cars and build a nice garage to PARK them in!!!

True- the difference is the town didnt know about all the work and chances he was doing, all he had to do was ask. But he didn't and when they told him to stop,he didn't. The Club from Abingdon came in to do the work from the money given to Dunn, the town was working with them and the town knew what was going on. The town had no clue what was happening with the little league. Read the PAPER. It even said the town and the president of the little had a meetting in Nov to talk about writting a work order if there were any repairs. Well... guess who kept making changes?! If you want to help clean up the park or if you want to donate something, that is fine. But you have to ASK.
As far as the kids, the are never any parents with them while at the park. I live right here, so I see what they are doing and have told them to stop repeatively. They will pull themselves onto the top of the basketball goals and swing on them- not the right way to use them. Then they will throw rocks at the press box, sit on top of the fence and spray paint the hardtop.
You have totally missed the point, it's not about the kids coming out to use it- it is about the kids that do use it, make sure they use it correctly. I know when my kids want to go to the basketball court, there is usually something wrong with the nets or rims. Kids are VERY disrespectible.
I have no control over the times the cops work, but the maintance man for the town lives across from me, so he keeps am eye out as well.

I'm sorry, since my point differs from yours I'm missing the point. Well guess what, you couldn't be more wrong with your point. Bottom line is the council is elected to serve us, not for us to serve them and they need to get their heads out and provide a safe and clean place for our kids to play, not just a small portion of it.
This ain't about Paul Russel and the quicker the town gets over their SNAFU the better our kids will be!!!
THE KIDS SHOULD TRUMP ANY RESIDUAL FEELINGS THE TOWN HAS ABOUT PAUL and what did the Town's actions in regard to the electrical devices in the Press Box have to do with anything you mentioned?

I read the paper and therein lies the problem, the Town says one thing and then does something else!!!
