Help with debt collectors?I came to the US in 2008 on a student visa and studied in FL. for a year, while i was there the school hired me to work on campus and i received a Social, Security number(only valid for work with DHS authorization). in may 2009 i had to withdraw because my parent(who were paying my tuition) lost all their money. since then the school set a collection agency on me.
However i got married last year in October and have filed joint taxes with my wife and they did not take her tax return.*does this mean the collectors are off my case?* i am now a permanent resident with the same social security number just without the limit.
Am i free and clear? if not what steps can i take help myself. Thanks in advance.
