DO NOT rent from Magnum Boating at the Indian Pointe Marina. My husband, myself, our 8-year-old son, and 4 of our friends rented a pontoon boat from them on Saturday, June 19th. It was the worst experience we have ever had as consumers!!! The following is an account of what we went through:
On Wednesday, June 16th, I placed a call to Magnum Boating at the Indian Pointe Marina looking to rent a pontoon boat for Saturday as a gift for my husband and our friend for Fathers' Day. I had discovered Magnum Boating's website and given that the rates seemed affordable and they had boats available, I decided to go ahead and make a reservation over the phone. The full day rate for the pontoon boat was $140.00, which did not include fuel or oil. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone, while very friendly, gave me some incorrect information. He explained that no charges would be made to my credit card until we arrived at the marina on Saturday. However, upon checking my internet banking statement Wednesday evening, I found a $189.00 charge to my Visa from Magnum Boating. I attempted to call them to inquire as to why my card was billed when I was told it wouldn't be, but I was unable to reach anyone by phone on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. When we arrived on Saturday, we were taken to our boat and we were appalled. This boat was absolutely NOT safe for use. The canopy was nearly shredded. The seats were cracked and smelled of mildew and some other sour stench that I will never be able to wash off. We actually thought it was some sort of joke. Unfortunately, the joke was on us, because they showed us to the boat and told us to have a good day. No offer to show any of us how to us the idle controls, no attempt to fit any of the 3 children with life jackets, no opportunity to ask any questions. Just have a good day and they were gone. The boat broke down on us within the first hour and since we weren't offered a map, we couldn't explain to the technician which mile marker we were close to and had to wait for over an hour for him to get there. While waiting for the tech, I decided to go for a swim. It wasn't until I realized fuel from the boat was leaking into the lake all around me that I decided it was better to just get back into the boat and wait for the tech. This was also the point where we realized we hadn't been provided with an anchor or a ladder to re-enter the boat from the water. I had to be lifted into the boat and was injured in the process - I'm still having trouble using my right leg because of it. Then, once the tech got there and fixed the boat, we resumed our activities (of course, at this point I was in so much pain that I was considering medical treatment) and, lo and behold, the freaking boat breaks down on us again. Half the fuel in the thing leaked out into the lake and one of the pontoons buckled every time it crossed a wake - it sounded like the boat was going to just break in half. Once it started to rain we decided to call it quits since the canopy was shredded and useless. Oh, btw, did I mention that we had to hold the canopy frame in place to keep it from flying out of the boat? Jeez... Then, we take the piece of junk back to the marina and they made us pay for all the fuel and didn't offer to compensate us one bit for all the trouble we had. We spent less than 5 hours on the lake and were broken down for at least 2 of those hours. Not to mention the gas that leaked out into the water that we had to pay for. These people are crooks and liars and we were treated like trash. I strongly recommend you refrain from renting boats from Magnum Boating. I've never been treated so badly in my entire life - and I have pics of the boat and my injuries that I plan on posting here, too!!

We keep our boat docked here and we love it! Tim and Caroline are super nice and have always been very fair with us. I think we were there that weekend, I remember talking to Walter the Tech about one of the pontoons breaking down twice. What bad luck... Walter is not only a very good tech, he is one of the nicest people we have ever met. Sorry you had such bad luck, but it sounds like you may be better suited on a bicycle...
Knowing them personally I can assure you that they are far from crooks. Rental boats get abused. Before we had our own boat we rented a brand new Glasstron with an inboard engine. The wiring harness caught fire! Did we flip out? no? Things happpen. And if you didnt like anything about the boat so much you should have walked away??? All I can say is that you get more with sugar, and WELCOME TO BOATING!
