This was in the Hill Top neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio. The Bottoms neighborhood that adjoined the Hill Top was flooded. Akerberg started the WAIU radio station named for the stations owner American Insurance Union. Post Depression AIU restructured as Nationwide Insurance. Nationwide Communications operated from 1946 to 1997.
WAIU was one of the original 16 CBS Affiliates. While at WAIU Akerberg and two other affiliate engineers developed one of the first mixing boards to use three microphones.
