Amen. Now all of the children who grow up in Watsonville will have the benefit of a lifetime of low risk of dental decay. It's a good thing.

P O S.. No.. now we will have FLUORIDE pushed down our throats. FLUORIDE is used in pesticides. Have you read the tube of toothpaste you use that has fluoride? It says if swollowed, call the poison control. That should tell you something.

Also, if you were at the meeting or watched it, you know that the vote was to have the fluoride for 2 years .. then what. Watsonville cannot afford to pay for the upkeep and maintain it. So Watsonville will have to remove the equipment, remove the fluoride from the system, etc. At whose expense? WATSONVILLE TAXPAYERS. Watsonville can't even see bottom NOW. How are we going to pay it then.

Alejo is sinking Watsonville in his personal agenda to get higher in government. He lost control a couple times last evening. Also, in my opinion, he lost ground with his bid for assembly.

VOTE ROB BERNOSKY.

Mexicans don't drink tap water. They drink bottled water (the big blue bottles).
If Peterson is so worried about "thumbing thier nose" at laws/rules why is Watsonville a "sancuary city? voted against the "patriot act"? You are chooseing which laws/mandates the city will observe!
Antonio Rivas shouting at citizens to "shut up" is the most rude, unprofessional conduct. Only surpassed by Alejo's arrogance. His final statements were absolute lies.
Can't wait till we get some itelligent, common sense people on the city council, these people are a joke.
now you know why I keep saying, VOTE NO FOR ALEJO. HE IS A LYING CONIVING CREEP WHO DOESN'T CARE WHAT THE PEOPLE HE REPRESENTS WANT.

It seems like every Sentinel news report involving Alejo is sanitized. Reporter Donna Jones only said the applause seemed to favor the opposition, but here are the exact figures of the 37 public comments - Anti-fluoride: 29 (78.4%), Pro-fluoride: 8 (21.6%).

Please note that the 8 fluoride supporters consisted of Alejo's Farmworker Alliance campaigner from Salinas (Juan Uranga), one Santa Cruz dentist, two county non-profits (Dientes and Salud para la Gente), two financial supporters of those non-profits (Mary Lou Goeke of United Way, Kathleen King of Community Health Trust), and two reps of the county government forcing the fluoridation (Poki Namkung & Rama Khalsa).

Needless to say, none of them are Watsonville residents who will be drinking the fluoridated water.

I was appalled at what I saw last night, appalled but not surprised. I was very happy that the three Council Members who voted against it did the right thing. Thank you Greg Caput, you've got my vote for County Supervisor, Nancy Bilicich, and Emilio Martinez. Rivas is an embarrassment to the city and THANK GOD he's termed out. Petersen is a twit and a major disappointment, thankfully she's leaving also. Alejo & Bersamin are just two crooked peas in a pod. Too bad the districts they represent can't see the forest for the trees and vote them out. Did anyone hear someone shout "Hitler" at Alejo just before the sound went off?

Let the lawsuits begin!

Sadly fluoridation is a huge scam. Most of the EPA science unions have asked congress to halt until they have some proof it is safe. The NRC 2006 by 12-0 said the current max is not safe but EPA management has refused to lower yet.The Headquarters EPA union filed a lawsuit to halt fluoridation in 1986 but the courts refused to hear. 2005 11 EPA unions asked congress to halt. No response.
The 1993 US tox profile showed most at one or more high risks for being damaged. Seniors 50 up, heart patients, kidney patients, those low on calcium, magnesium, vit c and protein deficient. Most are low on all three vitamins especially kids and seniors.
This is a non FDA approved drug never reviewed much less approved. It is a new unapproved after 65 years of use. No agency has ever tested the smokestack pollution scrubber brew of toxic wastes for safety or benefit. No company selling this sludge will certify it benefits or is safe. NSF not the EPA actually is in charge but never tests it before dillution. It doews have a full page of other toxins in it many radioactive but arsenic and lead at the top. It leaches lead and damages pipes because it is corrosive. Marc Edwards of Virginia tech said likely tens of billion of damage caused by it to equipment. Actually far more to humans show the data.
Maas 2007 Coplan 2007 Masters and Coplan 1999.
Featherstone 2000 Burt 2007 Detroit
read some of the data , most likely your dentist never did. Dentists can be fined for speaking against fluoridation or mercury( they install 45 tons of mercury in the US every year.
Prop 65 is researching fluoride causes cancer.

Watsonville did a good job sticking to the science and following the law. The main issue here was simple: State Law supercedes local ordinance. Those who would advocate wasting tax payer money on a lawsuit that would never win (the legal concept of Pre-emption is as old as this country)should be ashamed at themselves. Cities across the nation are starved for money and wasting it because you are upset that children will avoid cavities is plain silly. Time to move on to more important things. If you don't like the decision don't drink the tap water. Those who argue that it is unsafe have not provided COMPETENT scientific evidence. Sorry faux teabaggers: you lose right along with cavities.

"I just think there's a better way without violating other people rights," Bilicich said.

If there is a better way then why didnt she come up with it ? She had ten years and on the day of the vote she says "I think there is a better way???" This is s prime example of a someone who has no business being a council member. It is the coards way out. Stand up for your positon and defend it don't act like a coward.

Water fluoridation is one of the most insidious acts of forced chemical inundation that has taken place in the history of civilization. The fluoride that is dumped into municipal water supplies is the result of industrial waste from the nuclear/uranium, aluminum and metal industries.
Water fluoridation, by way of the help from Sigmund Freud’s nephew, Edward Bernays, has allowed American industry to conveniently dispose of its waste products. Bernays in the 1940’s and 50’s was a key individual who taught industry leaders how to convince government agencies that fluoride should be added to municipal water supplies.
Fluoride is An Insidious Chemical – Very Harmful to the Human Body
From the Article “Fluoride: Commie Plot or Capitalist Ploy” by Joel Griffiths:
“For decades, U.S. industrial plants have rained heavy doses of waste fluoride on people, such as the Mohawks. The nation, however, has been successfully conditioned to think of fluoride solely as a benevolent substance and to dismiss as a crackpot, anyone who claims otherwise.
In recent years, because of rampant environmental damage, some of the worst fluoride pollution plants such as those at Akwesasne have been forced to reduce their emissions, but not terminate them. At Akwesasne, cows still live only half their normal lifespan. Nationwide, fluoride remains one of industry's largest pollutants.
In 1980, the Mohawks filed a $150 million lawsuit for damage to themselves and their property against the companies responsible for the pollution: the Reynolds Metals Co. and the Aluminum Co. of America (ALCOA). But five years of legal costs bankrupted the tribe and they settled for $650,000 in damages to their cows; the court, however, left the door open for a future Mohawk suit for damage to their own health. After all, commented human rights lawyer Robert Pritchard, " What judge wants to go down in history as being the judge who approved the annihilation of the Indians by fluoride emissions?"
Fluoride is a known toxic substance. It is widely known that water fluoridation became popularized during the Manhattan project, when the U.S. military began mining uranium. Fluoride is used to enrich uranium and is an important component to the creation of the atomic bomb.
1940’s nuclear propaganda was directed at convincing municipalities who existed near nuclear plants that fluoride was not only good, but necessary!

Fluoride industrial giant ALCOA funded Kettering Labs to back its need for scientific research regarding the ‘safety” of fluoride.“A book by Kettering scientist and Reynolds Metals consultant E.J. Largent, for example, written in part to "aid industry in lawsuits arising from fluoride damage," became a basic international reference work.”
The sodium fluoride that is added to municipal tap water is so toxic to the human body that it is directly linked as being causative to the following diseases and health conditions:
•Endocrine Dysfunction. Fluoride interferes with your thyroid’s uptake of iodine, a vital mineral. Fluoride also interferes with the Pineal gland.

Since the inundation of fluoride to municipal water supplies first took place in Grand Rapids Michigan in the mid 1940’s, the majority of U.S. states followed the cattle car my dumping millions of tons of this toxic substance into your water, and then convincing other industries such as the ADA that it is necessary.

Many European countries such as Austria, reject the tenets of water fluoridation, refusing to add it to water supplies.

I wonder if you'll be saying the same thing when your town has this poison added to your water. If you vote for Alejo, then it's coming. He has to pay back to his political supporters.
We've been fighting this for over 50 years.

Do the research Watsonville. If there's even a chance that some of the illnesses proported to come from floridization of water may come to your children--than demand that a scientific study [environmental review?] is conducted before this carcinogen becomes part of your daily diet. Viva Zappata

Sweetcakes and Corraliltos Res: You need to get over your infatuation with Mr. Alejo. you are embarrassing yourself and your family as well as your hero Mr. Martinez. You have lost on all fronts. Times they are a changing. Your bitterness is just going to give you cancer. Try being the positive change you wish to see. Life is good. Dump your computer and take a long walk. Maybe pray and ask for forgiveness for all the hate you spew. If nothing else, children will benefit; perhaps toothless crackers will not. I'm pretty certain dentures are unharmed by fluouride.

I believe that fouridation is a communist plot designed to make young children have healthy teeth and avoid tooth decay. I think it is a shame to avoid major health issues in young children by steming the advance of tooth decay. Our society will become a tool of communist Cuba if we allow small children to have healthy teeth. We must stopp this march toward communism by encouraging more tooth decay !!
