A Positive Behavior Reward? Did yall ever think about giving a RESPECT AWARD to GOOD PARENTS & STUDENTS? Your state is #49 in the nation far as education,(on the bottom) now you want to give these kids a TREAT if they dance to your music. These kids & parents need more Respect than a bicycle, should I say THE GOOD PARENTS & STUDENTS. Better opened minded teachers in the school that don't have to teach under FEAR they will loose their job, better board members that care about the student etc. Most of the kids I know would rather get respect (if they give it) than an bicycle, the parents also.

Why doesn't Texas get rid of this TAKS test BS? The kids aren't learning anything. All they are learning are the shortcuts to taking an exam. As far as truly learning math, english, science, etc. they are so far behind earlier generations that it is pitiful. I think they ought to go back to rewarding bad behaviour with paddling the kids butt and then you don't have to worry about rewarding positive behavior. The out of control kids will then quit disrupting classes and those that want to learn can. Our school systems have gone backwards and we have our overpriced administrators to thank for that as well as the wacko's in the State that have pushed TAKS and everything else into our schools systems.

Isn't this the truth in both write ups. Get back to the basics Gilmer. All your doing is preparing our kids to fail and to fail in life in a big way.

You are correct, the teachers are suppose to prepare kids to meet the world. Gilmers problem is the teachers haven't meet the world, meaning they cann't teach what they don't know. The late Coach James Heffernan was fired from GISD, the kids loved him. Heffernan talked to all kids, that is what a teacher is suppose to do, but not in Gilmer they would rather give you a criminal record. The bike idea is ok, but RESPECT will go alot further.

OMG:What you said is true about the out of control kids needing a paddling. In dealing with some teachers in Texas some of them need a SPANKING also. This TAKS test I will have to read upon it, I took some kinda test before I entered college. I would like to see teachers have to take a test in their subject now and then. Even a DRUG TEST. No better not do that you would have a shortage of teachers.

Get rid off the English as a second language classes and you will have the space you need for classrooms and students. When you clear the illegals out guess what we have money, space and everything else we need. Oh, but is this politically correct, hell yes it is!

As I recall Gilmer needed a new school, the school on Scott st. was too old. They voted yes, and had no idea where they was going to put the school. When they found some land to buy (with tax payers money)we found out it was going to be put over an old caped gas line. During that time a 52 million dollar bond was voted in to do a make over of the schools etc., then they put the same teachers back in the class room who have failed for 20 years. Some of these teachers take a early retirement then come back and teach some more. In other words they get 2 checks. All these new buildings are just money put in the contractors pockets who are doing the work. Now you know why I was never elected to the school board there. Damn I am glad I wasn't.

This is just an attempt by Gilmer ISD administration to cover their butts because of complaints that they are always rewarding the kids with behavior problems and the good kids are left in the dust. What Gilmer needs is a complete administration and school board clean-out!
