With the constant increase in user fees on water and sewer it's amazing everyone isn't up in arms over the poor management of our infastructure. At a time when everyone is wondering how they will make it through 2009 with the economy crashing, our water rates jump 15% and sewer 18% due to poor city management. At least main street is pretty, though not traffic friendly anymore. There will be a lot more dead lawns this year and years to come - Thank you Berthoud Board of Trusties.

How did Berthoud utilities end up so expensive? I heard the treatment plant burnt down a few years ago, true/false?

All of you are speaking from points of misinformation/malinformation. Please bother to do some fact checking and information gathering before you speak. Remember the adage of putting the brain in gear before engaging the mouth? Also, how many of you bother to get up off your duffs and volunteer in town? I work two jobs and manage to do that instead of complaining. Let's see some action and less whining, shall we?

I'm not sure how someone from Longmont can think he has any of the facts from Berthoud.

A recent article in the Reporter Hearld said that the Berthoud town council thinks there is a stigma about Berthoud from the growth cap in 2000. The problem is not getting builders and developers to come to town! You have to get the general public here to buy homes. Without that, any builder that comes to town will GO BROKE!!! FIGURE IT OUT!!!

Look at all the empty retail space in downtown
Berthoud. Look at all the annexed developement land that has been sitting for years and now have for sale signs on them. This was going on long before the economy took a dive.

Berthoud people need not worry, the town staff has everything undercontrol. Please go about your business as usual and remember change doesn't happen overnight. On the water rates! originally rates were scheduled to rise by 15 percent in 2009, but the town trustees and staff worked hard and lowered that amount to only 2 percent for a savings of 13 percent which will be passed on to those who require water service in Berthoud.

I agree with the folks who are outraged with the city government of Berthoud. I lived in Town for over 8 years and finally had enough. I move to unicorporated Larmier county just west of Town. Much less concern over wacked water and sewer rates. View my website on the matter www.BerthoudWaterTax.com

I own two houses in Berthoud, and one in Longmont. I have 17 year of experience with Berthoud both within town gov. and without. I know from whence I speak, Homer.

Here's another thought for you Mensa folks out there: how about bothering to find out the facts first, and if you don't like what's going on then once again bothering to do things to effect the process of change instead of annoying us with all of this whining...don't you get tired of listening to yourselves?

The problem in Berthoud is that developers have not paid their fair share of growth. The town should immediately increase building permit fees, water tap fees, sewage fees. This will ensure that those living in Berthoud will not have to pay an unfair portion of developement cost.

Developers have been going where the rates to build are cheaper, which is why the new town trustees have been enacting discount processes to attract them. If you outprice the business in these days of tightness, then you drive them away further. The days of being picky and exclusionistic are long gone. We are now stuck with what decisions were made 5-15 years back, in terms of "slow growth" and that's why we're all paying more now. Please, folks, get the facts first, then engage the 'ol brain with comments.

Berthoud needs to install parking meters downtown to help the business owners to pay for sidewalks and other improvements to main street.

The town of Berthoud should put a check off box on the water and sewer bills so that a 10 percent fee could be added to those who check the box. The money generated would then be applied to the water and sewer bills of those seniors who barely have enough money to pay for things like food and medicine.

It would be a good idea for Berthoud to purchase and take control of electric service to the businesses and residences within the town limits. It could be another source of income to help offset the cost associated with Smart Growth.

I believe before you engage in put downs you should get a pair of glasses and take a good look at "your" town, Berthoud! It is in shambles with inadequate leadership to boot. There are a lot of people who volunteer here and that's a good thing, but that does not give you the honor to be so self righeous.

Daily Horoscope for December 7

Libra

You're ready to put a lot of energy and drive into the day, but you'll prefer it if you're doing things that have meaning and emotional significance for you. There's a chance that you could get quite heated over anything that strikes you as important now, and others could be taken aback by your vehemence. There might also be a minor dust-up over a financial matter.
