Nick Weiss..well there is a giant step BACKWARDS for the citys police department. this guy has screwed up every agency that he has headed. A simple "google" search would have told the powers that be that this guy is NO GOOD even as an interim..! after getting bounced from his latest "chiefs" job he taught at one of the local community colleges in the Joliet area and even got bounced from that after one semester. see a trend here folks? and that "linebacker" program with the IACP is a bunch of fluff. They have a list of these former chiefs(and most are former for a reason IE: Nick Weiss)that want to get off the couch and play chief for a few months while cities conduct their searches for permanent replacements. They do not make any real positive changes, they just keep the seat warm until the new person gets picked. They make some good $$ for just showing up, and the IACP get to pad the bill alil more too. OHHH and having the IACP help pick the chief, Ill tell you how that will go. It will go one of two ways. a) one of the 44 applicants will be Zirks buddy from lets say South Elgin, the pool of candidates will get trimmed and of course this person will get picked as "best choice for the village" (wink, wink) OR the IACP group will go thru the resume packages and find the person that has the most ties to the IACP and of course that person will be "recommended" by the search group.(again wink, wink) it will not matter if this person is the right "person" to lead the department forward. The IACP takes care of its own if you know what I mean. For example, the Village of Channahon was looking for a new chief a year or back, so they too hired the IACP to conduct the search. The point person for that search was then "retired" chief Joe Pena. So after Pena and the IACP group sift thru all of the resumes and knock out what Im sure were the strongest candidates, Pena(yea..the guy who just knocked out the competetition) decides to withdraw from the search committee and APPLY for the job himself..! and guess who they picked..??? go to the Channahon website and look up CHIEF JOE PENA..! sooo gilberts residents, got confidence in the process already? you BETTER keep an eye on this process..!

Boy, theres alot of animosity here.....could you possibly be a cop in one of the places Chief Weiss used to work? Maybe you didn't get the chiefs job so now you're upset?!!!!! Maybe there's a reason you didn't get the chiefs job. Maybe you're jealous that other places actually believe that a smart hard-working man like Chief Weiss can bring alot of knowledge and experience to a police department. Hmmmmmm

hey ron, not animosity..the truth..and Weiss brought alot of knowledge and experiance to every department he headed..what did he do with it once he got there? all 3 of them he drove into the crapper and had to resign from..! ask the coppers in midlothian, river forest how great he was..they are all glad he left. RF had to commission a review of the department in the wake of his fuck ups, and that cost the village big bucks.Go to the RF website, you can probably still download the 50some odd page report on what a great job he DIDNT do. hey Ron, if hes sooo smart why has he been fired..errrr asked to resign from every chiefs job hes had? Im sure he appreciates your rising to his defense(he'll pay you the $50 he promised you later) but stick to writing about things you have knowlege of, and this isnt one of them.

You sure have alot of "knowledge" on this matter. Or is there another reason you are so angry? I get the feeling you've written "trash" letters about other chiefs as well. All of your comments are your opinion and your opinion only. There are several others who have differing ones. In my opinion, you just can't stand it that you can't be a chief anywhere. Maybe you should stick to writing about things you have knowledge about because having what it takes to be a chief isn't one of them.

There are many, many, police officers in River Forest who wish Chief Weiss were still there. I heard a rumor, there has been a complaint filed against the new Chief in River Forest. There were complaints filed against the Police Chief in River Forest before Chief Weiss. So, let's do the math: Three police Chiefs in River Forest, and all three had complaints,(drum roll) AND the common denominator = THE COMPLAINERS are all the same!! The same mopes who will never get the opportunity to be a police chief anywehre, Jeez, they couldn't even make it to deputy chief. HAHAHAH
