Pingree Grove brings other towns to table for boundary talks wi...

An annexation dispute that played out this week in tiny Pingree Grove almost resembled a high-stakes game of Texas Hold 'Em. By making a surprise bid to acquire a contested 657-acre property along Illinois ... Full Story

This just amazes me! The town might as well be called Cambridge Lakes because the real Pingree Grove has been swallowed up and spit out by this developer. Did it occur to anyone when they were putting in these thousands of homes that there might be a need for a grocery and restaurants and retail? Are they just now addressing this?
And secondly, is Pingree Grove really considered a suburb now? I grew up outside this quaint little village and went to school in Plato Center. I'm appalled at what has taken place.

No offense..but a grocery store chain has to desire to put a store in. The developer or the city cannot hold a gun to their head and say open a store.

Sprawl, sprawl and more sprawl. Yet another beige box breeder colony where you have to drive absolutely everywhere. When are we going to learn? And what exactly are we going to have to eat if we keep raping and scraping all the good farmland?

Tell me, when there's a food shortage, and farmland is fully in use, and there's conflict over biofuels, and gas is pushing $5 a gallon, and the exurban housing market has fallen through a hole, WHY ARE WE EVEN HAVING THIS DISCUSSION?

This land should stay farmland. Any other outcome is a complete and total failure of planning and government. Absolutely no way should it be rezoned for development.

Well Farm Girl, when you write in past tense and your city shows Orlando I donot think its too far a stretch to think you are now in Orlando. How silly of me not to know you are on vacation. I also assumed you must not have been there in the last 5 years because all those items you mentioned are within 5 minutes of Pingree. Have a great vacation.

I'm researching right now...on my farm. Grayslake is the broadband antenna site. And, thank God, my 1930's farm house is not beige.
