Everyone should check out the facebook page about the new school. The future is bright for Mingo County Students. This will be a wonderful school and everyone should get behind it for the sake of the students. This is going to happen no matter what you think.

i am excited for the opportunities this new school will bring. i graduated from gilbert 2 years ago. while i found myself very well prepared for college, i know that is not the case for everyone. this school will provide students with more opportunities through scholarships and an overall better education that will prepare them for college or the work place.

i also know that there are people out there who are against this school, but if you ask most of the students, you'll find that they aren't. with technology today, they already know many of their future classmates. i think the people are completely against this school need to step back and think, because, eventually, it will be the best thing for students in mingo county.

Its not just williamson against it, gilbert and matewan students are not too happy either..giving the students netbooks when they start there. Sounds like a bribe to me. Matewan or Burch really have no choice but to go there, not too many other that schools close to them. Williamson has Belfry or Tug Valley and Gilbert has Man, Logan and Westside to choose from. If students who live close to wyoming/mingo line go to new school that would be well over an hour bus ride.

true...they always make us come to school when the roads are dangerous & they turn around and give us 2 hour delays when the roads arent even bad. they need to get someone that knows what they are doing.lol

I agree with you they wait until everyone has already gotten up then they call. And the buses run here if the snow is butt hole deep on a 10 foot Indian. I think that it is dumb . And most of the time I don't send mine. I have even called them at the bus dep.
But one parent calling just won't help.

You people are so close minded. This new school is GREAT. Look around at schools in other counties, our small schools here just can't compete anymore. If we don't want our students to get left behind we have to be willing to grow. I don't understand why any of you would want to continually run down this great opportunity for your children. The students will get along just fine and this school will be a great success. Go check out their facebook page for lots of pictures of the school.

I agree I graduated in 2008 and I would of loved to had the oppurtunites these kids will have at the new school...People need to wake up and realize we are in the 21st century..things change...and change is good especially in this case...this will give the kids more votech programs and better chance for college...and also helping them with social skills...the world is changing..its about time Gilbert did to

The new road is complete it wont be as long as you think....once the ramp is finished on top of horsepen mountain...and its not a bride its wonderful...that the kids will be able to use a computer...since alot of kids still dont know how to use one...once its built and the kids go..everything will change for the good promise...you all will see

Well said. Gail Sheehy once said, "Growth demands a temporary surrender of security."

Found out a few days ago the ramp on top of Horsepen Mountain isn't planned to be finished for the start of the 2011-2012 school year, so they will be busing the students to Taylorville Mountain to get out to the school. This means over a 2 hour ride for some students. Also, what is going to make this new school so much better for the students? The same old teachers that have taught at the old schools, so no better teachers, longer rides for the students which I don't think will makes for a better learning environment and many students will live so far away that they won't be able to engage in any after school activities. Did you know that this new school will be located at 400 feet higher in elevation than the main top of Horsepen Mountain? I ask, how well does Mingo County State Road keep the roads now? Do we think they will be doing a better job just because of a new school located on a road that goes to nowhere? In another of your post you say the students will be able to learn how to use a computer, I find it extremely hard to believe that they don't already know more about computers than most computer technicians. This new school is the worse mistake this county has made.

Hello do you all know that if a child is on a bus for more than 1 1/2 hour that the board will have to pay your child. The parents in the other co. makes the board pay their child so we need to make them pay ours to

Thanks
