What about the rest of us? These gas prices are getting absolutely outrageous and there's not a foreseeable end in sight to the rise. We thought it was bad when it hit $3 a gallon and now we are pushing $4? How sad is this? That rebate check that we got (well, I didn't, but some people did) sure doesn't do much good when it all goes to filling up your tank.

This should be telling them something. What about the education lottery. What about the rest of us. I'm not sure what they are gaining by raising the gas prices so high other than lining their own pockets. Some people are having to work 4 day work weeks now because they have a long commute and gas prices are killing them, me being one of them.

Something is wrong with the mindset here. We can find money to fund a senseless war but no money to fuel school buses. Can you believe that some districts are going to 4 days a week schooling because the fuel for the buses are too high? Something is definitely wrong with our gov. officials. We must continue to pray for our leaders and ask the Lord to help them make decisions that will benefit his people.

Now will you believe me when I say that the public school system is a wast of tax payers money, I wish they would do away with them all.

This is horrible, why was there even a cut in the first place. There are many taxpayers here in south carolina. Why are we facing this? I guess because the senate took all the money from public schools and gave it to private schools! We NEVER hear them complaining about money? What going to happen to the public schools? Not everyone can afford private!

Lets go to 4 day school and extend 1 hour per day. Other schools in the United States are doing this because of the gas prices.

With low teacher pay in SC, many of us would like to catch the local school bus with students to get to work.

There wouldn't be such a problem if SC had up-to-date buses. All the ones they have now are gas guzzling guzzlers.

K-12 kids, schools, supplies, buses, meals or teachers are not funded by the Educational Lottery.
When the Lottery people were pumping us up to vote on it for our "Schools" they ment Higher Education not Primary. So all of us that thought this would be a good thing for our kids that schools and teachers would all improved we were lied to yet again.
The young children in this state do not count, if they did we would have enough buses to get the kids to and from school without breaking down, the schools wouldn't be falling apart around them and there would be enough supplies so that the kids could learn. Teachers would be teachers and not Administrators and could then TEACH our kids.
Education Lottery - turned out to be an Education in how much we want to believe that our kids will get a fighting chance, and how easily we get fooled.

I couldn't agree more. With all things, a strong foundation is required to build from. How can a child use this money for secondary education, if they can't get a strong foundation from k-12.

The lottery funds chairs at 3 different major colleges in SC for research totaling about $30 million per year. These funds are primarily for SC business not education; I thought the purpose of the lottery was for education which these funds could offset the cost of fuel or whatever- new buses perhaps.

If the big wigs who sit in air conditioned offices would cut their pay instead of teachers and bus drivers there would be more money for buses/teachers/schools. These big wigs sit in air conditioned offices and make decisions about school buses and most probably haven't been on a bus in a long time-some probably never. They give themselves the raises but refuse raises (minor as they are) for bus drivers and teachers=where's the money going-ask the leaders!!!!

I worked in higher ed. and then went to K-12 to teach. My understanding, which is limited, but the plan for the Lotto $$ was first directed to our state's higher ed. (colleges and universities)such as LIFE scholarship. Not until recent years was it rewritten to include public schools K-12, and limited at that. SC state residents, ticket buyers, voters didn't get what they hoped for from lotto $ thanks to our officials.

Let's remember that the Legislature broke their own law by not replacing the completely worn out, unsafe, polluting vehicles they call SCHOOL BUSES!!!!! Special thanks to our dedicated bus drivers! Certainly would be helpful for them to find enough money to keep them operating!!
