I just wanted to say hello. I am a past resident of the Iron Range. I had a 40 acre Homestead for 13yrs. I sold. I have relocated back to my home starting point. I do miss my the ole prop. tho. The smell of a stew, thick with meat simmering on the woodstove, the peace and quiet. The knowledge that I was well stocked with grub and snug in a well built cabin while the wind and snow would be whipping outside. The low Taxes and endless supply of firewood,(no utility bills).
Now things are different.
What I do not miss...the isolation, being snowed in for wks. sometimes, the fact that I really struggled there and those memories stay with a person, feet like frozen clubs, getting up at 4am to feed the fire or die, being eaten by mosquitos, just dealing with the cold and snow all the time (I am spoiled now), the miles I traveled on foot or bike for food or some kind of company.
Very much a beautiful place, hope the new owner is enjoying what I left behind. I did MN and it was time to get out.
