Homicide? No i don't think so. You are waisting time and money trying this case, spend it on getting rid of your drug and gang problems in that town and the people would be better off!

The definition of Homicide is the killing of one human being by another. So yes, Homicide.

And the proceeds go to....? I certainly hope he doesn't get to keep what ever money he gets from the sale of this truck.
He should be made to pay the family of the man he killed; to go toward funeral expenses or something.

I hope taking his truck and slapping him on the wrist keeps him from finding another vehicle to drive.

That would be a civil case separate from the criminal case.

He should go to jail for reckless endangerment and homicide. He should not have been driving at all. Especially since this was a second accident. Its not a waste of time. He had his 85 years too bad the person he killed barely had a quarter of the life/time he had.

If this had been the first incident, it would be one thing. Since this is the second incident, it's not good. Not good at all.

This is just another example of officials waiting until somebody literally gets KILLED before they act.

You're going to be old one day. I don't think this gentleman was stupid, just old with slow reflexes.

Definitely homicide. Negligent homicide maybe, but Im not sure of that exact definition.

Now the interesting part, replace the motorcycle with a bicycle, same situation and outcome, but he would not have been charged by the police. It would be an "accident" with no punishment, just the hopefully bad feeling he gets from killing someone.

Which can be very dangerous when behind the wheel of a deadly weapon. So getting behind the wheel when old and decrepit is stupid

Or how about another example of the need for adult children to have difficult discussions with their parents about whether or not they are safe to drive? My uncle took away the car keys from my Grandfather and disabled his car because he wasn't safe to drive but wouldn't admit it. There was no governmental avenue for him to pursue, he made a decision for his Dad's best and the safety of those around them.

I remember attending the funeral of a colleague's wife who was T-boned by an oblivious old person. She left 3 kids, youngest was 4 yrs old. The 4 yr old was in the passenger seat and witnessed the whole thing. He didn't lose his license, amazingly.

Yup I know what a left hand turn accident is like, been involved in two of them over the last 30 years of riding a motorcycle. So far, haven't been injured in one, guess the third is the charm...

Poor Old Man German; Now the blood is on your hands, and a young man is dead. You really got off, very easy. Do the right thing and sell your truck, give the money to the family who lost their family member. You most likely can hire a Illegal to drive you around New Mexico, in that New Mexico will give NM Drivers Licenses to Illegals. They still have horses in silver city and New Mexico.

Had the entities which exist to protect us from these kinds of things done their job (SCPD and courts), poor, stupid, old Verl wouldn't have blood on his hands. Local law enforcement losers and which ever loser judge saw the first case are complicit in the motorcyclist's death and in making the rest of Verl's short days unpleasant (if he even has a clue). Hindsight bias? Damn right! That's how it works! Idiot! A '93 Dodge Pickup? Verl was driving a freakin' tank! If you see a geezer in a tank like this, especially if it has a bunch of dents and dings, be afraid, be very afraid!!!
