The great work that the local EMT do for our community is super. A special shout out should go out to Silver City Mayor James Marshall.

Mayor Marshall has a lot to do with "it". He is also a paramedic and still runs calls. His department at GRMC that he runs worked to fund the construction of the new facility. Matter of fact his office is there in that building.
Ask before speaking-great skill to learn.

"History"....Did you even read the article before you shot your mouth off?? It clearly lists Mayor James Marshall as an individual "who made the new building a reality by going after funding and pushing the project through." He is in a list which includes State Rep. Diane Hamilton, Susie Trujillo, Ray Baca, Dr. William Neely and Don McNutt. Hmmmm seems read before writing is another good skill.

So our mayor is also running calls as a paramedic. yikes.... I'm not impressed with the new service or any healthcare in Silver!

What's so bad about the mayor running calls as a paramedic? You *are* aware that neither the mayor nor any of the members of the town council are paid by the town for their services, aren't you?

Jeff, maybe when you have a loved one with an emergency go to Gila Regional ER you will understand. My 78 year old mother had an emergency 3 months ago, they held her in ER and did NOTHING for her. My 85 year old father after 8 hours of this - took my Mom and drove her to Las Cruces, ER who saved her life - she had a stroke - GILA REGIONAL did NOTHING!!! My mother couldn't speak, and they let her lay there with all the swine flu people coming in.
They life flight about 2 x a day for simple procedures, broken legs, etc....
you damn right I won't use the healthcare here - staff infections galore - that is why Dr. Robinson got a new surgicenter - he refused to operate in the old one.
Dr. sparks is a fine example for Gila regional - the way they protected her and had no regard for the patients... No, Jeff - no thanks - good luck to you and whoever else has to use Gila regional

To the best of my knowledge, the mayor doesn't get paid either. (Keep in mind that Silver City has a 'weak mayor' system-- he only gets to vote to break a tie.) The real power in town is held by Alex Brown, the city manager-- who *is* paid.

I did some research on this matter - he is paid a small amount each month - 7-900 bucks, it's supposed to be a part time ribbon cutting ceremony position - also reinbursed for his expenses for travel, meals, etc. which is not much!

Mayor is the CEO of the town and considered part of the council. Town ordinance states all shall serve for no pay. This includes the mayor. Yes he does get reimbursed dollar for dollar for travel out of town. Town charter and code are accessible from towns web page for all to read. You can even search the documents.

History, I am sorry that you had a bad experience, but I can gaurantee you that you can find something wrong with ANY healthcare organization if you want to. Maybe we do not have the resources in our hospital like a city the size of Las Cruces or Albuquerque does but I assure you that there are other healthcare facilities in this state that are way worse off than ours. Just go over the mountain to T or C for one example. And I know that you are over exagerating on your estimate of "life flights" out of GRMC. All of those "simple procedures" you refer to are usually because docs like Robinson aren't willing to take on call hours leaving the city withou Ortho. I have had loved ones go to the ER here as well as been admited to the floor, including myself and we have had nothing but positive experiences. Again, I am sorry you had a bad experience, however one of these days when you decide to drive 2 hours to try to get to a "better" facility you may have another bad experience and start bashing them too.

Jeff - call Dr. Remillard and ask him how many life flights a day - I got that straight from him.... THE TRUTH MUST HURT YOU JEFF!!!!!
I'm not the only one who has had a terrible experience with GRMC!! I praise where praise is deserved! Dr. Carreon, Dr. Robinson, top notch! the Sr. Dr. Bell top notch!
by the way, when my father took my mom out of the ER after 8 hours of nothing.... the dr on duty said to him and I quote, this is the level of care you get in Silver, what do you expect" - that is a direct quote. letters were written to the board over this incident which went unanswered.
I have heard countless stories!! AGain, Dr. sparks is a prime example of the level of care you get from GRMC. No thanks!!
Jeff, you're right about one thing - I agree you're sorry

Well obviously your ranting and raving didn't get you anywhere with anyone that matters so I am glad you can come here and vent.....maybe you feel like your getting something done now. Atleast I won't ever have to meet you face to face at the hospital.

My friend Beth was taken to GRMC, they "checked" her out and sent her on her way. Three days later she died in the GCDC of a Staph infection. Three people were working that day Somebody, Nobody and I Don't Know :(
