Raul, you also have a flair for writing, pretty humorous and entertaining. Doesn't see, like this thread is alive anymore, but if anyone from Silver Springs revisits this site, I would be really interested in what your observations of what is going on in the community with this. Has it pretty much passed? Everyone moved on?

I'm not from Silver Springs but I own a lot of silver and I have a spring in my step, plus I have been to a number of hot springs in my day and I have silver hair. That aside, I do believe that this issue has passed and people are moving forward. The people of NM, in my experience, are hearty folk who are used to overcoming all the obstacles against improbable odds. This ordeal was indeed a kick in the pants, no pun intended, but it wasn't a blow sever enough to cause a lingering grimace from the pain. The doctor is a damn disgrace but she either knows where the bodies are buried or has the goods on the powers that be because they have no desire to bring her up on charges. I'm fairly certain that her conscience may soon drive her mad as in "The Telltale Heart" although if the rumors of her lesbianism are true, she certainly has plenty of comfort and support at home, not to mention a ready supply of clam dip and honey glazed muffins. I commend you for keeping this alive because not only is that in the spirit of Jesse "keep hope alive" Jackson but it also threatens to eventually shine the light of day on this disgusting situation.

Whew! What a discussion!
Anyhow... This lady is just creepy!'Im saddened at the "staff" who all knew about this and didn't take enough action to help eliminate her from ever working again. Who knows what happened with this case but i only wished we had people like "Alan" here in Grant County to speak up for us.

You know what? Maybe it takes a protracted, energetic and sincere discussion to bring down the house of cards.

I have no idea of Sparks reads or even thinks about these comments, probably not.

Idem. for the hospital administration. Perhaps they just brush us off as gossip mongers or mud rakers.(Frankly, they are right - this IS mud!)

I truly wish that one of our local newspapers would take up the fight - publish our comments or, QUEL HORREUR !- interview Sparks to get her side of the story. Now THAT would be a juicy article!

It was quite a thread to say the least. Alas, it seems to have run its course now that the protagonists and the antagonists have moved on to greener threads. One can only hope that the doctor will strike again, not that I wish anyone to be abused, but so we can once again poke and prod our way through this minefield of hot button issues. It is to weep to see such a vibrant and enlightening thread go the way of the Pontiac.

What she has been saying all along to her supporters, which makes no sense: she was nobly performing a free exam on an indigent patient who had not received a complete physical exam in a long time. The problem with that story is that 1. the pre-operative examination required for admission is free, part of the surgical fee, so the exam should have been performed then when the patient was awake in her office, 2. she never recorded this examination so the patient has no benefit in the future of knowing that X was normal on Y date, 3. there are specific codes (and fees) for performing an examination under anesthesia which she did not charge (i.e., insurance fraud) and 4. a significant part of the genital exam (especially the male exam) is the determination whether a lesion or mass is painful or painless, which can't be determined if the patient is unconscious due to being under anesthesia.

The lesion in this case was infected. Anyone who has ever had a sore on his dong can affirm that it hurts like hell. I had one a few years ago after spending the night with a Korean woman. I was kicking myself afterward for not using a rubber and I paid big time for that mistake. It was so red and sore that I couldn't even wear trousers and when it burst, all sorts of gross, yellow fluid poured from it like a geyser going off. So there's no need for her or anyone else to wonder what it felt like.

Ladies, and more specifically, gents. Could you do us a favor and not regale us with your specific experiences a la Kragan El Paso? Off topic, unrelated and truly gross out. Sort of like whacking off in public gross out.

I'm very sorry to offend your suburban sensibilities but I can assure that I never beat it in public. I always do that behind closed doors, securely locked, lest anyone catch me again.

Unfortunately time is on her side, I did write (email) the patient services person..sorry I can not recall her name, I got a nice reply asking if she could share it with the admin. and that was that.

I hope the good people of Silver City do not miss a chance let the hospital know how disappointed they are that they betrayed their trust, and got national attention for Silver City for all the wrong reasons. There should be little doubt what she did had nothing to do with taking care of patients. While there are plenty of people to blame for this, take it to the admin. Everytime you go elsewhere send them a not and let them know you still remember, and if you are looking for something you can do, find out who sits on the board of directors, they are ususally not all medical people and keep the pressure on them. Write JACHO which certifies hospitals,(they had having JACHO on the screen). Don't let up on them, I corresponded with the author of this article and encouraged her, she said she had recieved flak for doing the article, giver her some encouragement, eventually we all get tired and wear down and end up occupied with other things...but don't give up, right is right and that doesn't change with time

I wish I would have read all of this before I was a patient of Doctor Sparks and then ended up in the hospital this weekend.

The Silver City state representative is the main administrator for Gila Regional Medical Cnt. Howie Morales has not handled this abuse appropriately. The individual, who reported inappropriate behavior to another GRMC administrator, said that person already knew about it. Then he denied it. Is he still there? Did they hire Howie to get some protection? Given Dr. Sparks unacceptable conduct-is having Howie Morales manage the place a conflict of interest?

The hospital claims to be patient centered. However, the fact that this went on & no one intervened until the employee, who got fired, came forward suggests that GRMC does not have much respect for patients, tax payers, or the medical field. Dr. Sparks ethics violations have made GRMC famous for the wrong reasons.
