I find it outrageous that Global Water charges a $25 Water Basic Charge along with a $33 Palo Verde Utilities Sewer Charge. When I phoned Global water I was told we are charged the above charges rather we use any water or not, water is additional, I was also told that they charge that amount because they can, that it is legal. I have sent I have sent a letter to John McCain and am going to CC City of Maricopa, Tortosa HOA, the local newspaper, legislature and channel 3 news.
This is price gauging, for me to use $11.72 in water and get a bill for $74.18 for using their company is unacceptable. I will continue to fight this matter until Global Water is gone and someone else has acquired the contract.

I just moved to Maricopa, and have gotten two bills from Global Water. I was astounded! I worked for a local water company in Arkansas where poeple complained if the water bill was over $25.00. How can they charge so much here? Who can I contact about this?

Kim, what does the city of Maricopa say about this? I have thought about moving out there, but this sounds a little insane. So 55 dollars/month and that is before you use any water? WOW...

Kim,

I too agree the rate is exorbitant. Let me know how it goes, and if there's anything I can do to help. I also have Tortosa HOA (which I also think is BS!$85 a month for what???!!! To annoy me?!)

I just moved here from Calif. where my water bill was a 33 dollar flat rate. Now, I know that I was lucky,(I inheirted house from parents, so what they had "carried" over to me), but even new home owners that are on a meter pay about 50 dollars a month and that is with HUGE grass lawns, washing their own cars, etc. I understand why Az. is going to charge more, but I was astounded that Global water could legally charge me what is now $70 a month before I use a drop. Because I am a newcomer to the area, I don't really know who to complain to; although it seems it won't do much good anyway. I was hoping the reasoning was because Red Rock was such a new community. Now I realize it's because we live in Pinal county instead of Pima which I am assuming puts us on Phoenix utilities. I thought I did all the necessary researching before my move but I guess the joke is on me. Does anyone know if there are future plans to lower the basic water charge?

I feel that if we follow the money we will find a watering hole that doesent need to be there. Maybe we should look at their annual report a little more closely. lets see how they justify the highest prices in the nation. I am positive that their energy cost and the pumping equipment cost are far below other cities of this size because of a newer infrastructure. They will be getting some competition pretty soon when the gila river starts to flow. Maybe they know that already and they are trying to get what they can before that happens. they will probaby fire a bunch of people around the time the river opens to keep their stock holders happy. We see this all the time nowadays

I moved to Mricopa from Maryland where my water bill was between $12 and $23 every three months. Maricopa is ridiculous; they need to bring in a different water supplier. Anytime water costs $100+ a month, something is definitely wrong.

Oh great - I just moved there and so far I can't believe what they charge for power and water out there. Definately need to get rid of Global and District 3 Electric!

The deposits were insane and now I find out that the fee to use their services is more than the actual water used. Need to see if I can get out of that lease and move!

Wow!!! I thought I was the only one appalled by the fees charged for water. I hope there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Is there any recourse that the people of Maricopa can take to make a change happen?

I called the water company today and was advised that 90.53 is the basic montly service before using a drop of water. I was also advised that the rate was so high because of infrastructure cost. Wait, I did some history checking and water was cheaper two or three years ago when the structure was already in place. Also, bonds were sold for the structure to be put in place. So I am confused, we tax payers issue bonds for water services infrastructure, then a private company gets to come in and operate our tax based infrastructure for a profit. I am sorry, how is this private sector thing helping me and my neighbors out?

Well, i was excited about purchasing a new home....and this really scares me...previous bill of 40 bucks that included garbage and sewer....now to expect above 100...sounds like a petition needs to go around all the communities and get submitted to the city.

I also agree , the water bill is horrific out here and tortosa hoa is not worth a crap! We do need a patician out here for the water company to lower its rates . We don't even have a community pool , or lake out here like most other sub divisions

My water bill in Gilbert was $27 pretty much every month and that included water, sewer, and service. I moved to Maricopa in July of 2012 and the first thing I noticed was the outrageous deposit required by Global water. Then when my first bill came, I couldn't believe how expensive it was!! My actual water consumption was just under $2. Yes, not a typo TWO DOLLARS. But my water bill was almost $100. I contacted Global water and was told it was so expensive because the city wasn't recouping the cost of the infrastructure through taxes so it was being recouped through the cost of wastewater processing. This past month I get into it again over my bill. My break down was this:

Water Basic $27.68
Water Consumption $4.60
Low Income Relief Tariff $0.18
Conservation Rebate $-2.99
Wastewater Basic Charge $62.91
Arizona Sales Tax $2.55
Regulatory Tax (Superfund)$0.02
Regulatory Assessment $0.20
Total Current Bill $96.65

Can anyone explain how this is a good plan? I mean for the privilege of using less than $5 worth of water, I'm billed almost $100?

When I call them this morning, I was told a different story than the infastructure story of last time. This time I was told the city counsel had decided the town would recycle its water instead of bringing in fresh water, leading to higher processing costs. Yet she also told me it was to save residents in taxes because instead of higher property tax to pay for the water processing, it was covered in the bill. Anyone else have a problem with this? I think its about time to visit a town counsel meeting to see what they have to say about it.

To add a little more, I was told that my basic service regardless of any water use at all was $90.15. Period. Didn't matter if I never used a drop of water.

Anyone else that would like to get on board, I am very seriously considering starting a petition to the city counsel to have this issue addressed.

When I called Global Water about a bill I got just 4 days after having it turned on, I was told I had to pay the price to live in Maricopa!!! What!?! Ive lived in MUCH nicer towns for alot less money!! Maricopa is nothing, but an overrated little farm town! I hate it here between Global Water and ED#3 what a joke!!!!, I would love to get on a petition, Ill sign on my way out of town!!!!!!!!!!

Well I wondered why the homes are so cheap in Maricopa. I guess we will look at other places to live in the valley. I feel bad for the people already out there the city council needs top do something. So here's what I was looking at 95.00 for water 200.00 for electric and HOA around 68-89. That why so many homes are for sale in Maricopa. Get busy City council and help these people. Thank you for our comments it has changed my mind!
