My mom moved to Austin and needs help adjusting

My mom has recently moved to Austin and is in need of free resources. Her husband died less than a year ago to a heart attack, and she lost her home in Illinois a few months later to foreclosure. She has a number of health problems, including a recent diagnosis of high blood pressure, diabetes, and reoccuring cancer. She is overweight and interested in losing weight, but I think would do better if she participated in a walking group. She has not worked in a number of years, but is now interested in working a part-time, easy job. She is having a hard time getting adjusted, making friends, etc. Austin seems like it has a lot of resources, but I am not familiar to them as I have only been here a few years myself. I have suggested meet-up groups to her as well as book clubs at the library, but thus far she has not moved forward with any of those. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions!

Sounds like she has a touch of depression. Start with a psychologist to get her on the right foot.
