R U A GAMER is a HUGE disappointment. We attempted to have a birthday party here, and the owner is a nasty, rude and unhelpful fellow who spends his time rolling his eyes at the kids and turning off machines at every turn. If you stand up to talk to somebody, your station will be turned off and you have to go 'bother' the owner who seems annoyed at every request.

The kids were scared to ask for a new game to play since he would just growl at them and made it clear despite charging us a RIDICULOUS amount of money that he didn't want to be "changing games every 5 minutes."

Secondly, he indicated on the phone that drinks and cups and plates would be provided for a party. He dropped some dixie cups and some cheap, plain plates at our tiny table and there weren't even enough for everyone. He charged us a premium for two bottles of soda which we were told were included. Oh, and he never asked us what we may want. And when we had pizza ordered, it was clear that he added a nice profit margin onto a couple of Pappa Johns pies that ended up costing us about $60.

I would NEVER EVER return to this establishment and it ranks at the very top of worst retail experiences I have EVER experiened.

This guy's business can't go belly up soon enough. Have a party at home on your own Xbox using Live. You'll have more fun, won't be ripped off to the tune of $250 and you won't be plagued with technical problems and a nasty owner who clearly doesn't want customers.

DO NOT GIVE THIS JERK YOUR MONEY!

I spent a few days at R U A Gamer my self. As a console gamer i prefer to have my gaming experience outside my own home to be better. I cant afford all the fancy equipment. So as i was at R U A Gamer i found out that not even the Owner or his staff where Gamers. So i got a chair that has speakers in it. But that don't mean anything if i cant get into a match or if i lag out of a game due to someone else logging on another 360. Also there is major screen lag on there screens. I have a better lcd at home then they have in there store. Needless to say i wont be visiting R U A Gamer again. Anyone got any suggestion for another place like this???

Have you ever been to GameFrog (at Northgate Mall in Durham)? Our family LOVES it! They do parties, too. But they just give you phone numbers of local pizza places and then they order for you...NO MARK UPS! I think it's about $10 per person for a party.

Also, this place is clean and the people are very nice! I've seen them help kids out with games & even teach them tricks/secrets to the games (when they're not packed). The owners are there almost all of the time and they are great with the kids (Never rolling eyes, etc.)

Everyone is welcome, too - adults, teens and younger kids...which is good for me since I'm not a gamer.

From one mom to another....you should really give this place a try!

@ Gamer....I don't know a lot about gaming but I do know that the owners of GameFrog are REAL gamers (mostly because I never really know what they are talking about...until they/my kids translate for me).

I read that you prefer to play outside of your own home...well, my kids and their friends LOVE to play there. Apparently, they have a lot of good games and a variety of "stuff" (xbox, pcs, Wii, Guitar Hero, etc. and the big screens that go with it) to play on.
Hope it works better for you than R U A Gamer.

Just wanted to say that I recently had a great time there. We had 13 guys go in for the lock-in on a Saturday and we had a blast. The young staff member working was awesome and was happy to help us whenever we asked for something. It wasn't busy and we stayed until 4am. I don't really know about all the other complaints on here, but all the games played well for me and the staff was helpful.

RUaGamer in Cary is the bomb. The owner and his wife and daughter are three of the nicest people I've met. The facility is top-notch, and I can't wait to go back soon enough.

Yeah I have no idea what the negative feedback is all about. I'm a PC and console gamer and I love it there. My Computer and Gaming Exploration Club goes there all the time when school's not in on a Friday or we have a early release and can't play at our usual meetings. The workers, especially the owner, are always friendly and I don't think ya'll realize that they're saving your play time by logging you out of your station. That's less money you've go to pay later.
This place is great for groups. Maybe not parties, as I have a certain respect for technology and wouldn't want anything, even on accident, to happen to the amazing pieces of gaming equipment that they have there if food or drink got spilled. But groups are good.:) My bf and his team practice there for tournaments all the time.
The experience is better. The games are fun. The atmosphere is perfect. There are no distractions from your game, if you're that serious about it. I don't see the problem at all.

Granted, I do know that they went out of business at some point a year or two ago. So maybe they just stepped their game up since then? Take things like that into account, yeah?

Horrid internet. Lag at every turn. connection interruptions every 30 seconds during any FPS game (makes games like quake unplayable.)

Will not be returning.
I'll stick to playing at home, it seems Raleigh has no real gamers with enough vision to create a decent lan center...so sad

they never fail to make you feel uncomfortable enough to prevent asking for help with any tech problems that they wont know how to fix anyway.

Welp, RUAGAMER is a really nice place, I like the concept of it, I really do. But the staff...
The managers are usually cold looking, but nonetheless pretty chill. The dark skinned chubby guy and the lightskinned redditor are amazingly cool. The girls, the chunky girl and the beautiful redhead are both seemingly so angry it's scary to approach them!

Girls if you are looking for a place to game and you're going alone beware. The owner is a sleaze, that is when his wife and child aren't around. Although if you're willing to have the troll sit with you and watch you game and "flirt" with you, you could potentially game for free every time you go. Just be careful.

Honestly, your opinion of this place will depend on the employee servicing you. Most of them are nice and keep track of your time. The 2 tall dudes at nights walk around to see what your playing, which pissed me off. Only ask for 1 game or else the boss gets irritated. Sometimes there's smoking hot chicks too. Don't try any "deals" b/c they'll charge you for full anyway. I'm more than happy to pay $7 to spend an entire Sunday to beat Tomb Raider here. Less than Renting =)
