I have owned 3 pitbulls, my dogs were never vicious toward anyone, one of mine actually stays in the house with a 2 yr old and a 9yr old, they are a very smart breed and can be taught almost anything, i can believe that everyone always sterotypes these animals, if a poodle bit here then it would only say a dog attack, any dog feels to they cry to, i am a firm believer in showing people the positive side to this breed. Pitbulls are amazing. Once you actually own one You too will understand them.

I THINK PITTBULLS ARE WONDERFUL DOGS JUST BECAUSE YOU HEAR THE MEDIA SAYING BAD STUFF ABOUT PITTBULLS DOESNT MEAN THATS ALL PITTBULLS. IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE OWNER HOWEVER YOU RAISE YOUR ANIMAL THEN OF COURSE THATS HOW YOUR ANIMAL WILL TURN OUT CHOWS AND EVEN POODLES AND CAN BE A VERY DANGEROUS DOGS IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW YOU RAISE YOUR ANIMAL. PITTBULLS ARE THE ONLY DOG I WILL OWN THOSE ARE THE BEST ANIMALS ANYONE CAN HAVE AND ITS REALLY SAD THAT PEOPLE FIGHT THEM AND ABUSE THESE ANIMALS THESE ARE LIVING CREATURES AND THEY DESERVE TO LIVE A HAPPY LIFE.ALL THE PEOPLE THAT FIGHT DOGS AND ABUSE ANIMALS ARE JUST SAD THEY HAVE NOTHING BETTER IN THER LIFE TO DO BUT ABUSE SOMETHING THAT IS SMALLER AND CANT DEFEND THEMSELVES.THATS JUST SAD. SOME PEOPLE JUST HAVE NO LIFE GO GET A JOB. BUT ANYWAY I WISH PEOPLE WOULD STOPPING THINKING BAD THINGS ON ALL PITTBULLS IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE OWNERS

i know ms. willette. given she does have her "DUH" moments, i don't think she did anything to the dog but get to close. she and her husband are both real sweet people. don't judge her. she knew the dog that bit her, but it apparently had a real bad day and bit her anyway

I didn't like pit bulls either until my daughter got one and showed me what wonderful dogs these can be given love and understanding. Bruzer is one of the best dogs we've owned. He is a gentle dog and we all love him very much, just like we did our "Buddy", a white german shepard. Both breeds are very intelligent and loving and both do just what they are taught to do and they know what not to do. Bruzer will protect our home and most people won't go messing with our dog. Even though this lady knew the dog, the dog didn't know her that well and was protecting the property. Even I don't go into another yard where there is a dog I don't know, even if it is tied or fenced in.

Maybe she didn't mean any harm but the dog didn't know this and was protecting the property. Calling the owner would have been the thing to do if she needed the dish back.

You know what, you people with your philosphy of people who put their dogs on a runner during the day are evil, can bite me (pun intended). Just like everyone else you're out for a witch hunt trying to chastise others for what you feel is wrong even if people are legitimately good to the animal. Granted a dog should not be tied up 24 hours a day. I put mine on a runner and he has half the yard to run on. I bring him in when I get home from work at 5:30 pm and he's in until I leave the next morning at 8:00 am. On the weekends I just take him for walks. What, you'd rather I let him out running free so he can be hit by a car I guess? Or so he can just be irritated, just as a human can get irritated, and then he bites someone and then you'll say "well if the owner had kenneled him daily this wouldn't have happened." A dogs natural instinct is to protect and they are territorial creatures. Any animal will attack if it feels threatened or protective. Anyone who goes near a dog on a chain or off of one obviously has no idea of this, even if you know the dog, if you aren't the owner you're risking yourself. But I'm sure I'll get flamed for thinking logically and not jumping on the lets kill the dogs or tie up the humans bandwagon.

To "Josh"

For the record you uninformed bozo. A recent ASPCA study compiled stats on dog bites by breed. Out of 100 breeds pit bulls ranked as the 97th LEAST likely to bite a human. You have a MUCH better chance of being bitten by a Lab, cocker spaniel, poodle or just about any other breed.
Dog attacks kill an average of 3 people a year in the US - less than 25% of those attacks are by pit bulls (and the pit bull mixes are lumped into that % as well). So to make it simple - if you have four dogs that are going to attack and kill a human 3 of those 4 dogs is NOT going to be a pit bull. Do the math and you will see that on average a fatal attack by a pit bull occurs less than once every 16 months vs. 3 fatal attacks by other breeds of dogs in that time. The media just hypes up the attacks when pits or pit mixes are involved.
Yes men bred pit bulls to fight - other dogs NOT humans. When pit fighting was a legal sport any dogs that showed aggression toward his handler or any human was disqualified from fighting.
You ask when will the public be protected? My guess is that will happen sometime around when they make being as ill informed and stupid as you a crime.
You want all pit owners to go to jail? Well, you go first since you admit to having owned one. In fact I think you should also serve time for being so stupid that you shouldn't be allowed to annoy others by being allowed out in public and for the love of humanity learn to use spell check!

OK Josh,

I just can't let this go.

I've never even owned a pit bull and I've researched the breed and know more about them than you - who has owned one - does!

Let me guess, you didn't do a lot of research about pit bulls before you went out and got that puppy did you? I can certainly guess you didn't buy the dog from a responsible breeder that cared about the breed. I'd bet you got the dog from some idiot that was just breeding their dog to make an extra buck.

My point is that most dogs live 9-12 years and it stands to reason that any semi- intelligent person that wanted to commit 9 + years of their lives to a pet would at the very least want to have an idea about the type dog they were getting.

Purebred dogs were designed by man to have inherited traits which make them more suitable for certain tasks and environments. The whole point of getting a purebred dog is so that you know the basic size, shape and temperament of dog you are getting!

You know nothing about a breed you chose to own but then feel justified in saying that no one should be allowed to own them.

Newsflash bud - not everyone is as dumb as you are. Many people actually THINK about what sort of dog they want and RESEARCH the breed BEFORE they get it. Those people TALK TO RESPONSIBLE BREEDERS AND OWNERS before they buy a dog. Of course, I'm willing to bet that those people also use spell check...

Do all dogs a favor Josh - don't own another one of ANY breed.
