Our eastern Tennessee city's newspaper has carried Elizabeth's column every Saturday for several years. I always enjoyed her column, whether its topic was her cats or family or friends or politics. She was a wonderfully talented writer and I will miss her column very much.
Her death came as quite a shock and much too early (I'm 63, so 73 is still "young" to me.) I feel as if I have lost a friend.

I have thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Schuett's columns, especially when she wrote about her English classroom experiences and her cats. I will sure miss her column every Saturday, and I hope someone will adopt her kitties and love them like I know she did.

I was fortunate enough to trade several e-mails with Elizabeth about her columns, her cats, her past life, many things. I didn't know about her death, but,having missed her columns and e-mails, I decided to inquire. It's a sad event, to be sure. Can someone send me some details of her death? When I found out 2 days ago about E. S. dying I was surprised to find tears coming to the surface (I do not cry easily). My work day went on but tucked under the surface was this incredible feeling of sadness. The feeling still lingers. I feel like I lost a friend and also wish I had emailed her over the years to tell her how much I enjoyed her column and that is no longer a possibility now.

I am 66 years old and never wrote to a newspaper before! I don't write letters to editors either or campaign on corners. But I am sure I am one of many people that were so warmly touched by Elizabeth Schuett's columns and want to convey my condolences.

Only yesterday I just happened to read one of Elizabeth's pieces, dt: June 1, 2005, enjoyed it so much , that I dashed off a letter to her, little realizing that she was no more, until the mail bounced back. I am enclosing the letter that I sent to her

Subject: Thank you for being there!

One fine day while in 1997, I was in th UAE , I came upon a column written by you which appeared in the Gulf News. I loved it, and ever since had never missed any of your subsequent columns which were published in The GN till I left the UAE in 2006.

While in the UAE, I had the pleasure of writing to you, and the privilege of receiving off and on e-mails from you in reply. I felt so happy when you sent me a picture of your grand- daughter ,Hannah.

In fact , after relocating to India , a very painful transition, I kept reading your columns online, and they definitely uplifted me in many ways.Benny and Smuts became part of my family.

And so also now. I lost my Ma, a month back. I never knew I would miss her so much , until she went away. The tears would not stop flowing, and I sort of drifted from one day to another. Until yesterday, when I came upon your feature,Watch Cats on Duty/June 01/2005.

Thank you so much for that lovely piece.It made me laugh after such a long time. Life has once again become bearable. Here's praying that there will be many more years ahead of enjoying stories written by you, as only you magically know how.

I was fortunate enough to be a student of this wonderful, spunky lady when she taught High School English. I, too, was shocked by her death. When I would come home to our town, I would visit and catch up with her always. She will be greatly missed, as will her advice and easy laughter. I only wish you all knew her as I did.
