You know things are getting bad when you are courting 30,000 bike gang members and other Harley Davidson type people to come to your town.
Nobody else wants to come, why not just let ex-cons and white supremacist felons take over your town for the $$$ they will spend, hopefully it makes up for what they steal.
Hot time for the locals now.

My dad's store closes when these men come into town.

He is afraid of being robbed and people shoplifting things.

...They smell.... Worse than whatever else is being served in town -- and that gruel being served to people is really bad according to the available sources. Filthy, bearded barbarians who just wash their face in a sink and double-up on deodorant after sweating for 12 hours mounting tires at some automotive shop and then ride into Gettysburg for the event.

WHAT THE FREAK is your problem, Dude?? These bikers could go anywhere of their choosing..they chose to visit Gettysburg. Remember, was it last year..THAT the Bike Event didn't happen, their riding downtown..cuz, street repairs were happening?? So, the local businesses am sure took a loss over this situation. Cuz, after the ride, they park their bikes and mull around the cafes and stores. Ya really think the restaurants are gonna serve crap food to them..Hmmm, let me think about that one..NOT ON YOUR FREAKIN' LIFE..they have a reputation to uphold..cuz, word of mouth is the best advertisement any business has. It can make or break ya..NO ONE is this day and age is gonna risk that..No sireee! Tell ya what ya do Davenport..while the bikers are in town..You just sit on the porch, sipping your Mike's Hard Lemonade swatting flies and call it a day..ROCK ON!

Sorry, you must admit that the Harley counterculture is mase up of totally sleazy, dirty people. It would be embarrassing for someone of means to spend weekends near there on a nice gentleman's farm and be hosting people from overseas, what would he tell them? They ask, "Is this normal for your country? Why do the police let them make all this noise and give rides to washed-up women with saggy boobs and saggier self-esteem?"
Tell them that there really aren't roving hordes of savages riding around on motorcycles? It's all an illusion??
But Gettysburg has no other options. The casino people would rather be somewhere which makes economic sense. Gettysburg does not make economic sense for even legalized vice operations like a casino. So, they have to lower themselves a few more steps and invite smelly men in denim vests and leather chaps to ride around town like biker gangs.
I would sooner see a strip club or an alley full of rub-and-tug massage parlors than the streets clogged with dirty ex cons. Heck, just open up a poorhouse and have the more important cities drop off the mentally ill homeless people to your soup kitchens. Register 50,000 of them to vote out there and maybe you'll get your casino!
Once again, you are making misinformed statements. You have been watching too many movies. The stories told in “The Wild One”,“Motorcycle Gang”,“Born Losers” and other OLD bikers movies just isn’t true anymore.

Most of the “bikers” to day are professional people, including business persons, doctors, bankers, law enforcement, fire fighters and others. Yes they do have some low level elements in their social circles. Last year a meet two lawyers, but they are the exception.

The “biker” of today is a very professional, courteous and friendly person who probably only rides their bike on weekends, although some will ride every day the weather is decent.

As I recall over the past few years there have been no crimes attributed to the influx of bikers in the area over this one weekend.

As for noise, I would much rather have the motorcycles than these kids who insist on turning the volume up on their car radios to 150 dB, and wind the windows down, while playing what they refer to as music that makes the windows in the houses shake, and makes my ears hurt.

I can’t speak for other places that have a bike week, but the one in Gettysburg brings good people who spend money, show respect for others and have a good time.

Although I have traveled town bike week for the past several years, and I don’t recall seeing any business that is close just that week, so I question this statement as to its truthfulness.

But if true, your father’s concerns are unfounded as evidenced by the lack of criminal activity during Bike Week in past years.

Unless your father runs the only business in the area that handles the particular items he sells, I am sure the other businesses in the area, appreciate him closing because it is an increase in sales for them.

As I started another topic about the A hole problem in Gettysburg. A hole in Gettysburg isn't uncommon, as a walk down any street will prove. A hole in Gettysburg are easy to spot, either in the middle of the street or finding a hole on the sidewalk.

are you in the position to state that this person is a lair? Or is this just another assumption by one of the locals? Much like all the hype of a casino POSSIBLY coming to G'burg, and we all know how that ended.

I would think that the locals officals would address the local a hole issue. If there were a hole in my area either on any sidewalk or street I'd like that hole to be filled in. Otherwise someone might hurt themselves by tripping over an a hole in Gettysburg, and that would be tragic. Could you imagine having to go home from your vacation in Gettysburg, to tell all your friends and neighbors how you were upset because of a hole in Gettysburg.

The person either:
A. Does not exist. The most likely answer
B. Is an idiot for closing on the single most profitable weekend for most businesses in the area.

You choose.

OK, maybe this is a non existant person, and their posting is moot.
But what if it isn't and they have some real concerns, then what?
I doubt that anyone with true concerns with post here or Borowhiners, but then again that isn't a guarantee either
