The Preservation groups got into this act by Dave's own invitation. HE and/or his mouthpieces approached THEM and asked for their support. It backfired on him.

Just shows you what a wonderful businessman he is. When they did not support him the first time why in heavens name did he think they were going to support him this time?

I sure am glad he doesn't have a political position whith a brain like that. Thanks Dave. As usual you did this to yourself. Maybe you should tell your followers that you are responsible for the decision those groups just made.

Hark, I think I hear the heavy set lady singing.

Better yet, take your act somewhere else. It seems there are plenty of towns in Pa. that are waiting for you to show up and spend the money you left Conrail with.

You won't be able to gamble your money there unless you fork over even more money to stay the night 1st! Locals will not be able to lose their money there unless they stay there or eat at one of the casinos resturants! That would mean even more people NOT spending their money in Gettysburg proper.

How did these high and mighty preservation groups let a gaming license be issue directly adjacent to VALLEY FORGE National Park?

HYPOCRITES and Washington fund-raising groups making money by selling FEAR. They have no concern about our tourism, jobs, taxes, etc. They care only about their own high paid jobs! It takes a lot of donations to pay Jim Lighthizer's 6 figure salary!

A couple things to add here and correct. Mr. LeVan approached these groups and asked them to "remain neutral."

been here awhile's: comment that he "asked for their support" how do you know this, where you there? Don't lie and place words in someone mouth if you don't have FACTS.

Now to the main point. None of these groups had an issue with the current Eisenhower Inn as it stands now or it's proximity to the battlefield, yet as soon as the word casino is inserted it is not acceptable. Their whole logic makes no sense. What they are saying to me is that they don't approve of what is going to occur at the Eisenhower once it is converted. So what does that say...it says to me that they are "morally against gaming." Since they are using proximity, then why aren't they against everything thats 1/2 mile from the park? I guess that means that Mrs. Paddock needs loose her property. Sorry, take it up with these four money grabbing lobbyist groups.

EASILY.
My family can go and visit each of the places you bring up.
A casino is NOT for family trips. Period.
Gettysburg is a NATIONAL park, and Gettysburg has long enjoyed the money from it that most small towns in Pennsylvania dream of.
NO CASINO.
FYI: Your family can still go visit these places if a casino comes to gettysburg. The NATIONAL park will still be there. I highly doubt history buffs will stop coming if there is a casino. The bottom line is people have the right to open whatever legal business they choose. Your family doesn't have to go to it.

Shouldn't the preservationists be issuing a statement about Ms. Paddock's land development plans? Her housing sub-division is within the view shed and only a couple of hundred FEET from the Park? She is creating sprawl; the Eisenhower Inn has existed for 20 years. HYPOCRITES!

casinos do not create crime, prostitutes or druggies...... people creates those bad habits. Casinos also do not create compulsive gamblers, weak people become compulsive gamblers. If one chooses to live a life of crime, drug use and/or prostitution or compulsive gambler s/he will find a way regardless if there's a casino near Gettysburg. There's already drugs, crime and prostitutes in Gettysburg, there are also compulsive gamblers here as well... maybe they are not sitting at a slot machine but visitng the local quickie mart buying PA lottery tickets. To say that a casino will enable all of these less than desirable actions is like saying guns kill people and again that is not accurate as bad people who use guns kill people. I'm all for any business that creates jobs in this area. Just earlier this week it was reported that PA's unemployment was broke, we need jobs here and we need them now. GO casino... we need you
Finally someone who sees the full picture. Great comment I hope some of the nuts against the casino read it.

A Great Point - The Eisenhower is just fine...just don't gamble inside those walls. I REALLY wish these "high and mighty" groups (and people) who STOP telling us how to live.

True, but he asked why I do NOT support a casino near Gettysburg. Gettysburg is currently entirely family-friendly. I prefer it stay that way. That is my opinion and I'm entitled to it, just as you are entitled to your opinion.

Another example of why you cannot trust the pro casiono crowd. They will say or do anything to, attack anybody, to reach their goal. These are the people who are supposed to trust to operate a casino in a manner respectful of Gettysburg? Give me a break.

Hi Sharon, The last paragraph in the Hanover Sun of 1/29/10 reported in their article "According to the joint statement, representatives of the four preservation groups each met with LeVan, toured the Eisenhower facility and conducted their own research before opting to oppose the project".

If they were not invited there why were they there? And ask Latorre and LeVan who invited them.

Apparently the procasino group actually believe themselves. How unfortunate for all the rest of us.

I guess when the Gaming board does not choose them again the rest of us will get blamed for that also. I am so sorry this is happening to Gettysburg. It is time for the Dave's to go somewhere where they are wanted.

On the subject of soldier's gambling during the civil war, you're absolutely right, gambling and card playing, etc.,did go on in the camps, but, when the soldiers knew that they would be going into battle, threw away all of their gambling material, because they knew it was a sin,and in the possibility of being wounded or killed did not want these materials found on their person, they did not want their loved ones back home to know they engaged in gambling....Do I condone gambling, certainly not...gambling addiction,as well as other addictions has ruined many, many lives.I,along with many other opponents of this gambling casino,so close to The Gettysburg Battlefield, say,NO CASINO ANYWHERE IN OR AROUND THE NATIONAL BATTLEFIELD.....

Oh they were invited. My GUESS is that DL knew the groups were contemplating taking sides and he asked them to see the venture and try to keep them neutral. There was no way they were going to back it. They chose the other way. No one is denying this was an organized meeting. What angle are you trying to pursue?
