These preservation groups do nothing for the people of Gettysburg who need jobs. So until they start promising jobs, I don’t want to hear about it. PRO CASINO

I think Mr. LeVan is a very succesful business man, and has done many positive things for the Gettysburg area. Although why does he want a gambling house around the Gettysburg he likes so much and has done so much for. There are many more area's in Pa. he could put his project, and not bring all that go's along with gambling to this town with so much hertiage. As far as benifitting Adams Co. and Gettysburg don't forget whose pockets the funds will go to first. Not the county, the township, town etc. They will be second. Mr. LaVan and company will be first.

Will Levan pay for the damage to the community and tourism when drunks, drug addicts and prostitues over-whelm the healthcare, police and Fire systems? Will LeVan promise to pay for property damage done by transient gamblers?
LeVan likes to claim he'll pump all this money into our economy, but what is the true cost to us in lives lost, changed and irretreivable damaged? How will we pay for increased traffic on our roads? The need for additional resources? No, Mr. LeVan, I will pay my share of taxes, increased or no just to preserve a way of life that I love. You have enough money; stop trying to destroy Gettysburg to line your own pockets at the expense of ours.

Maybe the Civil War Preservation Trust can gear up an ad campaign prominently featuring their "Preservationist of the Year" for 2009, John Latschar. They could have a famous and visible spokesperson, and he could get a handsome check.

casinos do not create crime, prostitutes or druggies...... people creates those bad habits. Casinos also do not create compulsive gamblers, weak people become compulsive gamblers. If one chooses to live a life of crime, drug use and/or prostitution or compulsive gambler s/he will find a way regardless if there's a casino near Gettysburg. There's already drugs, crime and prostitutes in Gettysburg, there are also compulsive gamblers here as well... maybe they are not sitting at a slot machine but visitng the local quickie mart buying PA lottery tickets. To say that a casino will enable all of these less than desirable actions is like saying guns kill people and again that is not accurate as bad people who use guns kill people. I'm all for any business that creates jobs in this area. Just earlier this week it was reported that PA's unemployment was broke, we need jobs here and we need them now. GO casino... we need you

A bunch of BS. It IS NOT on the battlefield.

Why is it ok for Wallyworld and theaters, shopping malls and bear barns to be within proximity?

Hypocrites.

Not one of these groups has produced or saved ONE job in Adams County since 2006. The CWPT nor the National Parks Conservation Association have not saved one acre of land in this county since 2006. Preservation PA did not care or even get involved with a casino that will now be established a mere 3,000 feet from the Valley Forge National Historic Site. And all of these groups side with No Casino Gettysburg who own leader is sub-dividing her farm for residential development along the battlefield boundary - homes that will be present for generations of American's to witness. They are in this for GREED period! Where did all the money go that they raised the last time to "SAVE Gettysburg?" It certainly did not come here. Bottom line, Like No Casino Gettysburg, they are all hypocrites. They are lobbyist groups that are trying to scam people out of money.

If the intrusive preservation groups are so concerned about what happens in our town, why don't they address the obvious mismanagement of the new Visitors Center. They choose to ignore something that already exists and has caused the community significant problems.

So, how far from the battlefield is appropriate for this casino? Just how much property do these groups propse to take and control? The battlefield has officially recognized boundaries created by the US govt. If these groups feel that the boundries aren't big enough then come on in and buy the land! To think that they have a right to dictate what happens to PRIVATE PROPERTY simply because it is close to the GNMP is absolutely rediculous!! The GNMP has become an albatross aroudn the necks of the tax payers in Gettysburg, Straban and Cumberland Township!!

Why is it okay to have a casino but not a Target, BJs or Home Depot in Gettysburg?

as far as i can tell, no land owned by the park will be lost or sold off due to a casino being situated near by, nor are there plans to turn the battlefield into an amusement park with rides. with that being said, the military park IS BEING PRESERVED. until anyone from any of these so called preservation groups have lived in this area for at least one year, working for wages that are close to 20 years behind everywhere else, and if you're lucky enough to even FIND a job around here, then i say keep your big mouth shut.

These groups see an opportunity to make money. I don't begrudge them that. They know a money maker when they see one. The CWPT took in A LOT of donations when they got involved last time by putting Gettysburg at the top of their list of endangered battlefields. Ask them how much of that money got spent locally.

I just see three national groups, and one from PA I've never heard of before today, trying to insert themselves into a local issue to help line their coffers.

This would not be in g-burg,would not infringe on the battlefield & could possibly increase tourism into town & battlefield. Your & others paranoia is totally unwarranted.Bring the business, let them line their pockets with gold & support the twp & county with their guarantee of one million $ each per year. This is a win-win for local citizens as it may reduce our taxes & possibly help improve the twp infrastructure
