The Gettysburg area will no longer have funds for snow removal. As of this last storm it was confirmed all monies have been used and officals didn't allott enough for this many storms. Any further storms residents will be left to their own devices when it comes to traveling the roads.

The only roads that will be maintained will be any roads that are affiliated with the Civil War and ALL battlefields.

I happened to be in the courthouse the other day and I over heard a conversation which was generally saying that local officals aren't doing the jobs they were elected.

now would be a good time to start thinking of change come election time!!

Thank you our lady of misinformation.

Borough Highway crews removing snow today, and all borough streets are passable, especially the snow emergency routes. In my drive through town today, I saw only one fire hydrant that was not completely accessible, but it was clear enough that the department can make connections.

But when we move to the Gettysburg National Park roads, the following are closed, and it doesnít look like they have been touched since the first snow.

Barney Ave.
East Confederate Ave.
Howard Ave (Mummasburg Road, to Harrisburg Road)
Confederate Ave. at the Piece Light
South confederate at Emmitsburg Road
Crawford Ave.

It looks like the only roads open on the battlefield are those maintained by local municipalities, or those that have park employees living in houses alone the road.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you haven't gotten the entire story. It hasn't been made public yet, but funds have run out.
As per usual those in charge didn't take the necessary step to ensure there would be enough money incase we had a snowy winter. NOw all we have to do is sit back and watch them flounder as locals again suffer.

It flat-out smells in Gettysburg. They might as well bulldoze the whole forsaken place, just leave the historic areas and have the Pa. Legislature appoint smart people to sit on a state takeover commission that would run the new place in a sensible manner. Box stores, warehouses, outlets, strip malls, an airport, military cemetary, doesn't matter as long as the remnants of this fleatrap are gone. Split the area up into parcels and sell them to developers so something worthwhile would happen in this town.

As it stands, property values bite wind and the crime is getting very problematic. There's no getting around those facts, you can see how much crime goes on in the Gettysburg area by logging onto the Pa State Police website and looking for each jurisdiction.

I'm sick of this cesspool of a town, I hate this place. I hope the whole borough gets hits by lightning all at once and burns to the ground.

I was at the courthouse yesterday and I over heard a conversation between two elected officials stating salt supplies are danerously low and there won't be enough money in the budget to pay employees.
This is going to be a very serious problem for the area. Best thing to do is post it on Borovent so Gene and Alex can make their comments.

Sounds like a plan there Chimp. I look forward to reading it on Borovent, as well as the comments to follow. Should be interesting. When do you plan on posting?

I guess you donít watch the news. Big cities and small towns all over the area have completely exhausted their snow removal budget for this year, or are rapidly approaching that poin
t.
Will this bring these communities to a halt? Will the snow fall and nothing be done?

Most communities are saying they will of course continue to remove the snow as necessary, but some of the summer projects may be eliminated because the funds will be diverted for this unexpected snow removal cost.

well, look who it is, FMB, welcome back thought you were lost under the snow. I watch all the news and know what's going on in and around town. I was making a point that Gettysburg is in some serious trouble when it comes to snow removal and the budget.
Hopefully, none of the vistors will be inconvienced by this slip up in local government.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news there Chimp, but the federal government seems to be the only ones "slipping up" when it comes to snow removal in Gettysburg. Some of the battlefield roads haven't been touched. BTW, I've been waiting for your post to appear in Borovent, when can we expect it?

Where did those millions of tourist dollars go that were pumped into the borough last year ? Hell, Gettysburg should have enough cash on hand now to spread gold dust on the streets to melt the snow.

I noticed there have been a few locals who are vacationing in Bora Bora for part of the winter, and some locals complaining about the roads not being plowed....could there be a connection?

Money came in yes, and money went out. Very little of the money went to the borough, it went to the merchants, and they had expenses. You went into a restaurant and purchased a meal. The merchant had to pay for the food, they had to pay someone to prepare it, they had to pay someone to take your order and serve you, they had to pay someone to clean up and wash the dishes.
Merchants had additional cost this summer for additional trash pick up and other items.
Some of the "pillow tax" does go to the borough, but it is ear marked for the police.

In Gettysburg at 6:30 AM this morning. All streets passable, and the Highway Department was putting down melting chemicals. So things can't be all that bad.

When is 6:30 AM not in the morning, you moron hick?

You checked every street in Gettysburg? Even the alleys where most crime occurs? Sounds like you're cheerleading for Gettysburg again. Dear Lord, you are pathetic.
