Gettysburg is a dying town and the casino could have saved it. Young people today don't give a rat's behind about American history so in 20-30 years when most of the Baby Boomers are gone Gettysburg will be lucky to get 100-200 tourists a year.

I would not go so far as to say Gettysburg is a dying town. I do agree that the interest in history is not what it was ten or twenty years ago, and that most of the youth of today, don’t have the interest. I have notice however that many people develop the interest in history later in life, as they gain a bit of maturity, and live through a bit of history. I do honestly believe that Gettysburg will always be an attraction for those interested in history.

Also, I do not agree with the fact that the casino alone would be the “savior” to the community. I do think that Gettysburg needs more than just the battlefield and history to draw people. Gettysburg needs something more to attract people, and if I casino could operate here in co-existence with the history and the battlefield, it would show that other attractions could many co-exist here, and compliment what we already have to offer.

Pennsylvania did a study in historical tourist a few years back and found that 42% of the historical tourist determine their final destination based on the tourist attraction alone, while 58% look for other things to do in the area besides history. Right now Gettysburg and Adams County are addressing 42%, and ignoring 58% of the historical tourist. That doesn’t make much good business sense to me.

Totally have to agree with ya Philly Mac..the young adults and even the young teens only CARE about..the latest designer clothes, new IPods, new Smartphones and WHAT CAN YA GIVE ME..FREE! At least a Casino, would have offered their parents jobs..so they COULD afford all I have mentioned above. Unlike visiting the pawn shops for their electronics, the thrift shops for clothing and the Dollar Store for school supplies. Ya know, Peer Pressure lurks around every corner and our kids are the victims of it constantly....

SO, your saying anyone whom has a job ISN'T a loser and only losers are without gainful employment. So, anyone with gainful employment isn't a loser, in your opinion, which makes a lot of people NOT losers, in your opinion. Would that be your opinion or not your opinion?
