i've been away from the burg for 15 years now but i still crave the hamburger wagon on a daily basis! does anyone have any idea how they do it? i've tried frying small beef patties in oil, but its missing something. anyone have any ideas? p.s. if you move away, expect to miss the hambuger wagon, cassano's, ron's, subby's, and marion's. before moving, i suggest you get your fill of them all because it is definately unique to that area.

I have lived in the Burg my whole life still have no clue how they do it. I just had a couple burgers from there the other day, new people own it but the burgers are still about the same. I beleive it is hamburger and sausage mixed together and fried in oil till crisp lots of pepper also. Good Stuff indeed!! Sorry you are missing it.

They use hamburger and sausage and lard. Lots of pepper. They are awesome burgers. I also miss Frisch's as well. We live north of you and I too would like to know what year you went to the burg.

My family and I grew up in the burg but left in 1986 we are very fortunate and make visits atleast three to four times per year to visit family but mainly to get a sub from Subby's (I worked there when it was Super Subway and out by the Dayton Mall) we go to Esther Price Candy Store, I don't know about Cassano's where they used to be is closed down, we stop by and grab a sack of little hamburgers and yes before we leave for the day we go close out the evening with Ron's, we eat a pizza there and get one to go and a mushroom steak sandwich. We recently visited and there was a car show going on in downtown we had to wait quite a while to get a table but well worth the wait

I just can't see it. I like to sit and eat inside and look at ladies, not that I'm beggin' for leg, but most of those fat-assed women standing at the Hamburger Wagon have me gaggin'.

Girls, this is why your asses are fatter and your bellies aren't getting any flatter, not that it matters, much like this chatter.

OMG! The hamburger wagon! Ron's, Cassano's; these are memories I'll never forget. I moved from the area in '84, and since my parents have passed I haven't been back. My son visited the area a couple yrs ago and brought me some pics that brought back memories. He said a lot has changed, yet everything's the same.

I think the secret is that they have also been using the same oil to cook with for years--seems to never be changed-- gives the burgers character.

I moved to Columbus in 82 from Germantown and miss the hamburger wagon. I could never pass it without stopping. I occasionally get back there for a sack of them. What I miss most is Don's Pizza in Germantown, Ron's in "the burg" and Marion's which I consider the best pizzas made. They all are very similar. Also the mushroom steak sub. That style of pizza and the mushroom steak sub you cannot get anywhere but the Dayton area.

I got the original recipe from the neice of the original owner many years ago. It is a combination of Hamburger, flour, salt and pepper. The real trick is a cast iron skillet, screamming hot grease and most importantly the meat has to go into the greese really really cold. Notice they put it in frozen. I don't do it that cold but it can not be room temperature.
Hope that helps
