While I'm sure birds of a feather stick together, I'm concerned how just being in a vehicle within proximity of a drug allows you to be arrested for possession.

So if I'm a passenger in a car that has meth on the floor, I can be arrested for possession, even if I know nothing of the meth? I don't do drugs so I wouldn't easily identify meth if I saw it in a ziplock on the floorboard of a car I was riding in. Granted, I know/trust my friends well, but if I'm needing a random ride somewhere etc. how do I maintain my innocence?

which makes it soooooooo easy for an unscrupulous (what?!? shiver me timbres!) cop to toss one into your car. Don't think it doesn't happen. Conservatives and constitutionalists (I mean you, teabaggers) are supposed to be AGAINST unreasonable search and seizure laws. All that dissipates when principle confronts stigma

Normally if one of the parties admit to it then both parties are not arrested. I'm sure in this case they blamed the other or played stupid that they didn't no it was there. People on dope make really stupid moves and say wacked out things so its not hard for an officer to do his job alot of times in these cases. Arrest of all them!
Don't hangout with people on drugs and this sort of thing won't happen to you. I never worry about getting pulled over because I have nothing to hide nor do the people in my vehicle. I am aware at all times what's going on in my life because it my LIFE. People take responsible for yourself because nobody else is going to. It's ok to be choosy over your friends and relationships. Do your research/homework... It was once said that people spend more time researching a vehicle (price, warranty, gas mileage, color, options etc etc) then over a relationship.(that's sad) If you want to hang around trash you will find those type of people. If you want to hang around Church goers you will hang around those type. If you want to hang around honest hard working people you will. Life is what we all choose to make of it.

I doubt it happens as much as you wish gazebo. Most bad cops end up being ex cops. Dope is for dopes period and if they are found with it then its book em time. Personally the key should then be thrown away to the cell they are put in.

The doubts of a former [somebody who should know better] who has repeatedly shown disdain for due process, equal protection, etc. are less than reassuring. I am SURE it happens more than YOU think. Dirty cops are ex cops for a few months, then become cops somewhere else. That is if they ever even get busted. The blue line and all of that garbage. We are living in a police state, at the behest of the Plutocracy. There was a time in this country when 'conservative' meant keeping the government out of our business and a focus on personal responsibility. That means if somebody is engaging in self destructive behavior that is their business. Defending the nanny state while claiming to be a conservative is a joke. Apparently conservatism now means looking down your nose at the rest of the world and saving them from themselves. Make no mistake, I think that meth is garbage and causes lasting mental and physical harm. Personal liberty and our constitutional freedoms do not come without a cost. You want to give lip service to freedom yet institute a communistic nanny state. You don't need to criminalize drugs. These dope fiends will break actual laws. Your "Minority Report" thinking is draconian at best. We are supposed to learn from history. Prohibition DID NOT EVEN COME CLOSE to working, and led to the corruption of police and judges at a staggering rate. The same dynamics are going on here in the north state. I am not intimately familiar with 'Del Norte'(who runs the dope around here now) but back in the 70's when biker gangs controlled the meth in California, they set up base in our area due to the relative affordability of bribing officials as compared to LA or the bay area. Others who read this may think that I am crazy, but I know that YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I SPEAK OF, Round Up Man. I won't get into particulars, because I don't want to be another body that turns up face down in brickyard creek.

I have no personal knowledge, of this incident, but I'll bet the cops know the local hoodlums and it was not an accident the car was stopped.
